PreAuth a zero dollar order

Don't ask - I just need to know (and I don't have CC processing on my system to be able to test) - can you do a PreAuth on an order that is for 0 dollars?

I remember writing a script that overrides the Auth Amount in the past... so it should be possible to put in a non-zero value for that, independently of the order total.

But are you telling me that the system will not let you pre-auth 0?  Have a client claiming they used to be able to do that and now can't.

Sorry, I don't know if that will work... but I also can't understand what that would accomplish.

What if you stick an amount in the freight column and thus make the total invoice equal to what they want to pre-auth?

LOL - honestly, I am not trying to figure out a way around it.  I am trying to decide whether my client is delusional and has never been able to preauth a zero dollar, or if it is supposed to be possible and they have an issue somewhere.

Did you look in SO_SalesOrderHistoryPayment for $0 TransactionAmt lines?

When I try to do an preauth on 0 amount it just stores the card and doesn't do an authorization as there is no amount to authorize. This was on 2021. Also test 5.0 and it is the same.

By default sage will not allow you to override the Auth amount to 0. it will reset it back to the balance. if you set the lines to zero and try to pre auth, it doesn't do anything. It just allows you to manage the card being used.

Maybe I'm delusional but what is there to pre-auth if it's zero? Like Kevin said check that table but I'm curious now....

Don't we all have delusional clients or are we the delusional one for thinking they are???  Perhaps the question to ask is what the situation that you are doing this zero preauth as they are the first to report it to you.....

I've had customers ask about pre-authorizing a higher amount than the order. This is usually because they don't yet know what the shipping is going to be and they may have a few days lead time before the order is ready to ship.

Rather than pick and pack and order only to find that the card is declined, they've asked what others do to ensure that a pre-auth can also cover the total price ( including freight ).

Ultimately I think what most have done is add an estimate for the freight right at the outset so they could pre-authorize an amount that should equal the final order with shipping.

One customer asked us to pad the pre-auth amount, without using the Freight field or additional line data (so the extras don't show on the order).
Looking back (at a copy of the script), what I did was a panel post-load script to override the TransactionAmt... based on their business logic.
