PR - Weighted Average Overtime calculation - client has approached us about changing the way overtime is calculated that now needs to be on a weighted average. Anyone else have to have dealt with this request? My understanding is they get paid for the full amount of the hours at regular pay then get paid for the overtime hours at the weighted average rate. The Sage documentation talks about alternative overtime but it is not very clear. It looks like it inflates the actual hours worked event though it comes up with the right wages.

I have not but my initial thought is maybe some type of VI. I would also get it in writing from the customer that they approve the calculation and if appropriate they also sign off that you are not in the business of providing tax or accounting advice.

Sage payroll as is can't handle this. The OT would have to be calculated manually first and then entered. Cross your fingers they included it in the new version.

I think we've done something similar. The overtime rate is 50% of the regular rate (rather than 150%), and if the employee works 50 hours, they get 50 hours regular pay and 10 hours overtime pay. Not sure where the the term weighted average comes from.

@MichaelMcDonald I looked at that and the version for download was 4.3. Nothing newer was listed. I'll have to check with them to see if they continued it.

Couple of thoughts - Sounds like a one off for DSD. Updating it to the release you need should be a slam dunk - This IS PR after all. The second thought is to reach out to the Beta PR testers. Maybe as @MaryJoKrueger points out, this could be your lucky day. If it is, buy a Powerball ticket, it looks to be up to 510 million. And if you win, you don't have to worry about this issue any longer. BTW, a 10% referral TY would be nice. If it isn't in the new release, at least you will have scripting ability which means you can create your own average OT calculation to resolve the issue. Finally, if all else fails, find an Access programmer to write a little program to scan the data entry lines, apply a little magical logic and spit out the list of OT average rate lines that you need. I hoping you buy the winning ticket personally (that is, unless I do it first).

FYI - Weighted Average OT is not part of PR 2.0. The Access/SQL idea may end up being the winner! Their PR is imported so the files could be pre-processed to calculate the OT before being imported.
