Client just called.  They have several employees that that no longer have FICA wages withheld but they are not close to the wage limit cap.  We have looked at earnings code, tax rules, etc.  We ran a PR for the person, no deductions and the PR calc did NOT withhold SS tax.

Coincidentally, we installed the COVID-19 hot fix at the start of the quarter.

    Thoughts??

Oh!  I just had this, too!  In Tax Profiles turn off the GTL boxes (which, strangely, aren't appearing in my system now - I just applied all of the updates yesterday) in the Federal section.  This is a known issue at Sage and Engineering has been looking at it "for a while."

I don't see any GTL boxes under Federal either

Am more curious now - I just posted another reply on tax profiles and when creating a new one, I see them, and they are in that profile.  It's weird!  With the abovementioned issue, am wondering if these were removed and replaced, but no longer populate the existing tax profiles (can only be added to new ones).

I'm finding if I have an existing and now all the FFCRA taxes come in unchecked, if I remove PA (the Work location) and put it back in, the taxes come back in and they are checked and the GTL are there but still unchecked.  So I wonder if the GTL taxes would come back in if you removed a location and put it back in.

Interesting find @Nancy Hanson!  I will try that.  (Very glad they change the FFCRA lines to be automatically checked!!)

See below,  I have noticed that sometimes it is there and sometimes it is not in other setups.  Puzzling.

Even different Tax Profiles on the same system, which makes no sense... I'm thinking Sage has realized there is an issue and taken them back off until they get it fixed, but it's not rolling out consistently in tax updates.  OR they were never there consistently, but I would swear for a time I saw them all over.

While this KB article is similar, it's not the exact issue that affected my customer.  Their system had the hotfix installed and it still happened.

Back when the hot fix for the GTL codes was released, you were supposed to run the Payroll Status Check.  It showed errors on the tax profiles.  You should have selected each one and clicked the tools button.  That's what made those show up in existing tax profiles.

@Wayne Schulz - What sucks about the KB you reference above is that the hotfix is for v2.2.0.  All of my clients are running v2.20.1 and it not referenced as a hot fix for the release.  So apparently (based on client issues) it is not fixed nor is there a warning.

Hi @Jeff Schwenk The hotfix referenced in the article ...17 is part of 2.20.1, along with the all of the others that were published for 2.20 (there's a long list).

Any best practices for correcting the shortage?  I don't think Sage will auto correct on the next pay run.  Reverse the problem checks, reissue and verify problem is resolved then get the funds from the employee and JE the correction for the bank account????  Seems like an involved process,

    Thoughts?

You're correct, the program will not correct.  The employee will have to pay the withholding - we did this by adjusting the amount in Manual Taxes after calculating taxes.  The employer side can be adjusted with Fix button on the Employee Tax History Detail Drill Down (many clicks, many screens!) - see screenshot.

I'm wondering if the bug came back. And, yeah, this ongoing problem with the KB is inexcusable. If Sage had one full-time Sage 100 KB editor I bet they could reduce call volumes from VARS 50% or more.

I agree with @Wayne Schulz - I suspect the bug came back in the 2.20.1 release.

And in reading the verbiage accompanying the PR6017T fix, they didn't really fix the calculation problem.

Prior to this correction, the 4 new GTL taxes were selected by default when a new Tax Profile is created, which causes the SS tax not to calculate. With this correction, the 4 GTL taxes will not default to checked when a new Tax Profile is created

The fix is to NOT check the boxes automatically???  How about fix the calculation to work whether they are checked or NOT!

Plus, I have a client who HAD been including a weekly portion of their Excess Life on every check, rather than doing it as part of year end.  We've been about 6 weeks now without being able to do that because of this issue.
