  • 1.  PR 2.X W2's best practice?

    Posted 12-28-2020 09:24

Our State, Ohio, has local income taxes for almost every small city.  The good news about PR 2.X is it handles multiple locals as needed.  The "bad" news is AATRIX generates a W2 for each individual locality.  The legacy program used to create a "summary" other local value in box 19.  I have one client who is generating 40 W2's for some employees because of where they worked on different jobs during the year.  Any tips on how to manage this for the employer who doesn't want to send 40 separate sheets to their employees?

The only thing I can think to do is create a new column for the summary and place the amounts there, then remove the individual city columns from the Aatrix grid.  It's all manual, but it will give a single form for each employee.

That may be a workable plan.  We may have to help them with a custom report for the employee that shows the breakdown by city, which is what they used to run for the legacy system at year end.

You may want to look at the moving of the information as I don't think it's a matter of moving 1 amount but rather an amount for each payroll when you get to box 14 and beyond.  I looked at this a few months ago and I'm almost sure Box 14 and beyond was individual amounts for each payroll.  Pretty painful.

There also might be an issue for the electronic filings between School Districts and City Taxes in Ohio if you summarize the totals...I know we had that issue awhile back with a client in Ohio – they had to separate out their School District Taxes from their City Taxes on the W-2's.
