  • 1.  PM and IRP Questions

I have a call with a prospect next week related to Production Management.  I have 3 issues from my testing of the latest build of PM and IRP for v2019.

    1) i have set up templates for let's say a 3 level bill.  If I create a sales order for the top parent item, I can get IRP to create the work ticket for the parent item.  But then I appears that I have to go through the IRP process again to generate work tickets for the 2nd level of the bill/template.  And then run it again to generate work tickets for the 3rd level of the bill/template.  Does anyone know if this is the way that it's supposed to work or am I doing something wrong.  I would hope I could run IRP and it would go through all the various levels.

    2) I have the Work Ticket Class to Auto Release the Work Ticket.  This works if I create it manually, but not if it's created via IRP.   Looks like a program issue to me, but I thought I'd check here first

    3) My PM options are set up not to auto Print a Work Ticket when it's released.  When I create a work ticket manually, this works fine.  However, when I create the work ticket via IRP (point 2 above), and the status is Open, when I change the status from Open to Release, the Print Work Ticket screen auto appears.  Looks like a program issue to me, but I thought I'd check here first.

Any input is valued, thank you.

Our experience with IRP is similar to what you are seeing:

    1) We see the same behavior on our installs.  The one plus is that IRP automatically regenerates after you select Create Work Tickets and will show the requirements for the next level items on the bill via the new work ticket that gets created.  If you decide to change the build quantity that is recommended by IRP before auto-generating the work tickets the regeneration will use the updated quantity.  That would be the only advantage over MRP and I feel like I'm stretching a bit to even say that.
    2) Our installs all work this way, not sure if Scanco considers this working as designed or not.  They may have designed it to create the work tickets as Open so they can be Released individually because you can go from  Open to Released but not the other way.
    3)  I found this same behavior on our installs as well and is definitely a bug in the program.  No reason an auto-generated work ticket should be treated any differently than one created manually when it comes to printing the work ticket at release.

I hope this info helps, good luck with the prospect call!

Thanks for the feedback @Bernie Lehman

I had a call with Karen from Sage Support yesterday.

Point 1 she will review with Scanco, but probably not part of the design
Point 2 she agreed is probably a bug and will report it.  Probably not a quick fix since there is a work around ... change it manually
Point 3 she pointed out I was missed unchecking an option in PM Options.

The BOM exploding at the initial level and the other levels requiring IRP are exactly like what is in Operations Management and JobOps with the Component Exception Manager, which has similar functionality to IRP. The plus with PM and BOM is you can specify a template and direct the parts to steps, so that was progress for PM.
