Sage Advisor is an essential tool (for Sage - not necessarily us directly). Read that book that I referenced above. It sets the direction for all of us for the coming five to ten years.

The challenge is ... what's good for Sage in the future, is not going to protect our dying business model so we all better change as well or WE will be gone in five years.

  • 132.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

@RobertWood - I think Sophie does good work. I'm a little less enamored these days because I think Sage MME has become too marketing focus and hasn't kept up on the sales side. Not her fault necessarily but it's a bit concerning. I believe Drew Macbeth has been brought in to resolve that. Drew has been running Sage's most effective sales group for a long while and has been at Sage for a decade or so.

  • 138.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-19-2012 10:45
@JeffSchwenk - They are making the organization simpler in some ways but more complex in others. Internally, they are bearing the cost of consolidating the product coverage for their front-line people. This may or may not be effective in the long run but as a partner, it should make it simpler because we have a single contact if we represent multiple products. Time will tell.

@JohnHoyt - A lot of my sales go through other partners so it's hard for a brother to make the leaderboards.

What the heck?? Why would anyone win back from off plan Sage 100 to Sage 500? It's being taken behind the shed and shot, isn't it? @PaulZiliak what am I missing?

  • 216.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-19-2012 11:10
Sage NA is finding sales for X3 much lower market then Europe. We're working several active deals - all in the 20-25 user size which translate to the $67k to 88k range.

  • 217.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-19-2012 11:11
@PaulZiliak is that because there is more competition here? Or are there other reasons?

    @PeterWolf It makes no sense.

  • 219.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

these are not big numbers! Average sale must be around 5K

  • 220.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-19-2012 11:14
@PeterWolf I think its because its what Sage and its channel know how to attract. X3 can scale big time, but its still the same partners by and large selling it. Two of our 4 active leads are using Sage 100 ERP - so it also may have to do with legacy Sage partners marketing to existing base.

  • 221.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

Those are net numbers to Sage.

Thanks @PaulZiliak - that makes sense. It's a go-to market, channel issue here and not a product issue. That is good news.

From everything I've been told and seen in my classes, it's a very sexy product, obviously because it was developed in France. I think it has to do with the Visual Process Flows.

For anyone interested, I confirmed late Friday that you can indeed purchase integrated Sage CRM with subscription licensing. The subscription slide was a bit alarming with the ""standalone"" next to Sage CRM. I know that you will all now sleep easier. @JerryNorman - Joe said the session was recorded. Of course, he also said there would be an email going out later in the day to summarize everything. I'm still waiting ... (did I hear it wrong?)

I'm often caught telling my six year old ""there's a fine line between 'gifted' and 'special' - try not to cross it."" Thanks to @JerryNorman for sending me the link. I didn't receive it. Didn't receive the invite for the presentation either - I think I first saw it because of a post by @ThereseLogeais (I think) here on 90 Minds.

  • 261.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-20-2012 22:51
@PeterWolf Periodically partners have been automatically transferred to a list as if e-mails were undeliverable. I was on for 3 - 4 months and received nothing. You would think Atlas would have solved that, but it looks like they retained that feature. You should contact your . . . whatever your sales rep is called now.

  • 262.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-21-2012 09:12
Was this much of a game changing announcement ? I am reading through the comments on the way home and my overall thought is that this is just another regular reorganization only ""getting closer to the customer"" is the new name for reorganization.

  • 263.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-21-2012 13:49
Looking over the slide deck and the only thing that caught my eye right away is slide number 2 where Sage's vision partly indicates that they ""...be recognized as the most valuable supporter of small and medium sized companies ... "". Right or wrong my first thought was that Sage now is playing in the Intuit sandbox as opposed to dreaming that they will move up toward Microsoft/SAP/Netsuite. I also think it's a rather weak vision. .02

  • 264.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-21-2012 14:44
@WayneSchulz That has been there vision at least for the last 12 months. I remember asking Tom Miller about what they felt the Sage brand meant late last year and that's what he stated. If you head to Irvine, you will see it plastered everywhere.

  • 265.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-21-2012 14:46
And ... fwiw ... this is definitely a re-org of the sales teams and was expressly billed as such. They are continuing their march to do away with product focused groups and people and start becoming customer focused. Personally, I think this move makes a lot more sense for Sage and channel partners that sell multiple products. We should focus on the customers and prospects and not have to jump through hoops from a product basis.

  • 266.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-21-2012 15:02
I agree with @PeterWolf on this re-org. I see two parts of this that help us: 1. Single Point of Contact - Products: We now have one person to contact about Sage 100, CRM, FAS and X3. He may not have the answer immediately, but he knows where to get it , and hopefully will respond quickly with that answer. 2. Single Point of Contact - Prospects/Customers: Our one contact also handles both prospects and customers. By taking the CAM function out of the loop, it will make it much easier for us to work with Sage. These are sales functions, not product feature functions. As certified consultants in these products, we should know the features and where to get more information, when required. What we are looking for is information related to pricing, promotions, sales strategy, sales assistance and competitive data. The re-org provides a more efficient structure to deliver these to us.

  • 267.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-21-2012 16:15
Pardon me for peeing on the corn flakes - but I'm positive I've heard and seen this all before - starting with Dave Butler standing on stage in his boat shoes proclaiming ""we need to be easier to work with""....to Laurie Schultz and her price simplification promise (and yes - she actually announced subscription pricing from the podium one year)....to umpteen sales force reorganizations. This is an ongoing flaw of Sage - one that is a symptom of who they are at their core (similar to a lot of CPA firms) --- a bunch of little tiny companies with not a lot in common bound together by some clever marketing and sales.

  • 268.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-21-2012 16:55
@WayneSchulz The positive effects of a cruise should last at least into Monday. Cynical thoughts don't happen until Tuesday. Perhaps another drink to remind you of the good times (on the cruise; several to take you back to good times at maybe . . . State of the Art?) I love the boat shoes reference. Also the CPA firms - I call them little fiefdoms. And notably missing was Sue Swenson. Newer partners will never know she was there.

  • 269.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-21-2012 17:12
My only explanation for Sue in hindsight is she was in quickly to package for sale which never happened. Pure speculation on my part but she had the demeanor that she was here for a purpose and not to make friends.

  • 270.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-22-2012 05:32
I think Sue was all about cleaning up the bottom line and when the purge was done, she left.

  • 271.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-22-2012 05:51
The sales reorganization should have been done years ago. It was always an issue dealing with different points of contact for different products (BW, FAS, Abra, MAS). It took longer because of the existing silos remaining from past acquisitions. The presentation could have goten to the point much quicker. I suspect that what we saw was similar to presentations made internally at Sage. Though the reorg is a good move, it will not result in substantially more sales if the products don't intergrate better. It feels like we're in a poker game with sales. They know they don't have a strong hand in technology wise, so the sales department resorts to bluffing.

  • 272.  RE: Please put comments on today's Regional Sales call

    Posted 10-22-2012 08:03
IMO, Sue was definitely brought in to straighten NA operations. She didn't have the background of ""serial turn around specialist,"" so I concluded that she was lured with the bait of potentially becoming CEO of Sage UK. I do think Sage NA is making the best of a poor hand. Myron and Wayne are correct about aging and unexciting products. The change will likely improve things for ~20% (80/20) of current customers; it will probably annoy more of them. I think complaints from customers about empty salespeople (little useful product knowledge) and from partners about channel conflict will the 2013 story we tell at this time next year. It isn't clear to me that the org change will help acquisition of new customers; better products would help there. However, their regional field managers are trying to help partners up their local marketing and selling games; ours is not an idiot. The call brought to focus what Sage means by ""core.' Essentially no mention of construction or SLX. Scottsdale is thrilled to be rid of Irvine. I have an early stage SLX prospect that could be 500 seats, so I involved Scottsdale in discussions early. From assurances given there, they have no intention of being sold off. Their sales are quite strong, and they intend to continue to push into non-Sage ERP deals. Sage CRM sales, even non-integrated, is no longer run out of Scottsdale. (I think that is a mistake.) Sage is probably going to hire a VP of Non-Core to handle NP, construction and SLX. What I've heard over the past 4 weeks have confirmed that BW and Sage 500 are in a very different boat than non-core products. Of course, this being Sage, all could change tomorrow.
