Platform migration charge

Does Sage charge to move from STD/ADV to Premium?  Used to be NC but I recall some posts that they were back to charging.

    TIA

Unless it has changed very recently, There is a charge if the customer is on Monthly Subscription, but not if they are on Annual subscription.

Assuming that is an effort to move customers to annual so they don't need to bill monthly.

    Gotcha!

    1. If you are a monthly subscriber and want to change platform ( to Advanced or Premium), then you give up any migration credits, and Sage quotes SLP
    2. This was first mentioned in October 2021, with an effective date of January 1, 2022.

Supposedly this was only for monthly subscriptions. However, I also inquired whether a monthly paid customer could move to annual payments and then do a platform change. I wasn't confident in the answer and presumed that such a change would not dodge the new revenue enhancement rule.

I don't think you'll see things improve for the SMB customers who are not on IPX ( Intacct, People, X3 ).

It's too bad there isn't some type of customer council to discuss these issues directly with Sage.

Mike Edgett is supposed to be at MOTM - this would be an excellent topic to bring up.
I've attached a PDF of the announcement should Sage feign surprise that this is happening or say they "have to get back to you at the next MOTM"...

My understanding is there is no charge to change to premium, even if you pay monthly, as long as you are paying current list price.  if you have any type of a deal, such as grandfathered pricing, and you pay monthly, then, if you wish to change to premium, your price is adjusted to the current list price.  I asked if the customer could change the billing to annual first and then change to premium later, allowing them to keep the grandfathered pricing and the answer was no.  ANY change, including changing from monthly to annual triggers the price change to current list.

Has anyone had a recent experience with this? With the new change in v2023, which doesn't need update keys, is this still enforced by Sage?

I can see how they would enforce it when keys had to be requested. However, now that there are no version-specific keys it seems as if this policy would be harder to enforce, and I'm still confused as to whether it is in force for v2023+

    In summary:

The policy was that, as of 1/1/22, if the customer was on a monthly payment plan, any change in the platform would result in the loss of all migration credits or any other discounts.

Has anyone had experience with this policy in practice, taking a customer from one platform to another starting with v2023, which doesn't require new keys?

Did Sage take away all the migration credits? Did you call Sage first and advise them you were platform changing?

@Wayne Schulz I had a conversation with Mike Ritchie at MOTM on this subject because I have a customer who could really be helped by switching to Premium, and was told that it would not affect their price.  We did not discuss any "ungrandfathering" implications directly though. (And the customer has still not made as decision yet because SQL Server is so much more  expensive than employees twiddling their thumbs waiting for reports...)

I have a few clients that feel twiddling is a LOT less expensive than working efficiently.

I'm being told that customers who pay monthly can change platforms ( Standard to Advanced to Premium ) without losing migration credits. Hopefully, Sage will issue something in print about this.

Sage issued an update on this as well as an FAQ which I've downloaded to our library:

Sage Product Catalog Simplification - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Rlm4AfMm_hid7kJSOryUP_18z4mBAdpO/view?usp=drive_link

Sage 100 is simplifying its subscription offerings, reducing the number of catalogs from 24 to 8. This aims to make the product selection process easier for customers. The most important change is that partners will no longer need to cancel and recreate subscriptions when customers change installation versions, eliminating the need for credit/debit memos. This change starts on April 22, 2024, and primarily impacts renewals and order changes.

Sage 100 Product Catalog Consolidation Partner FAQ - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KAPsGrIFEDDA_-OR1f2b3d8BLD2s3BT3/view?usp=sharing

This document explains the simplification and consolidation of the Sage 100 product line. Starting April 22, 2024, changes will be made to streamline ordering processes and make the system easier to understand. The goal of these changes is to enhance efficiency and performance.

I read both documents and I am still not clear about customer that have grandfathered pricing that want to change platforms.  For example, a year or so ago a customer asked if they could change from Standard to Premium.  The quote from Sage was more than double the annual price.  the reason given is that the customer had special grandfathered pricing.  If they make any changes then the pricing changes to the current market price.  Does the new policy change this?  Can the customer install Premium and keep the current subscription price?

I asked Sage a day before they posted those documents, and part of the reply was, " Any migration credits will be maintained."

I'm still unsure how Sage took a year to address this (and why it really needed addressing). The ability to install any version (platform) of Sage 100 (Standard/Advanced/Premium) has been around for a year, and customers can install any version using their regular keys without calling Sage.

That seems like good news.... as long as the price doesn't double on the renewal date.
