Pickleball Partner?

  • 1.  Pickleball Partner?

    Posted 02-05-2026 15:57

I saw there's a Pickleball tournament at Meeting of the Minds but I don't have a partner (and admittedly barely know how to play). Anyone willing to join with me to compete as plucky underdogs?

Instead of forming teams, I suggest we all sign up individually and use a rotating partner round robin format. This way, everyone gets to play with different partners, and we do not need to worry about picking teams.
Since we have a wide range of skill levels, I think this approach will make the games more balanced and a lot more fun for everyone.

I agree with changing to a round robin format.  It allows all skill levels to have fun and a partner is not needed.  It's also a great way to socialize because you get to play with everyone regardless of skill level.

@Anne Sawyer Can you make this happen?  Add a message or note that individuals can register as themselves, and they can do a Round Robin?  Having "never seen" a pickleball match (even though my home town has transformed our tennis courts into Pickleball "courts"; is there an opportunity to be a spectator?

Well here I came to volunteer to play with Steve to complete the origin story of the 90 Minds pickleball underdog story and found an even more solid solution ... a round robin style works just as well.

@Basil, maybe we can bribe the organizers with Cadillac Margaritas to put us together....

"Bribe?" Bribe?! I prefer "strongly encourage"... with the strength of said encouragement having a direct correlation to the tequila's proof.

    .... but yes... let's bribe. 😂

I have never played this way but am ok with it if the Commissioner wants it this way then I am in. I/we would just need to understand how it works and how we manage it.

I did get some whistles and clipboards so all we need is some tube socks for the throwback PE teacher vibes LOL.

In all seriousness though, I need you to help lead how to manage it. I could bring my laptop or print how it works on paper and then mark it there. I don t know.

Brackets just make it easy to manage.

Ok. Should we print anything out before then or is there a program to use? I do not want you to be kicking butt out on the court and then managing the ranks. That way we can do it together as a team.

I think we can loop Doug Higgs on this too. He was saying this is how he wants to play too.

Also, to keep the trophy safe year-round I was thinking to keep it at the DSD HQ in like the conference room, front desk, or somewhere safe.

You are going to LOVE the trophy!

Happy to help.  I'll see if there is software we can use to manage the tournament.

Hi @Tom Nanci - can you please sign me up or provide instructions? The event has a link to a registration site that says not to sign up unless you are the organizer, so I'm a little confused (which is not uncommon). Thanks for your help!
