Payroll W2 COVID wages

I also have a client working on W2s already and had 2 employees with COVID wages.  In both cases, it appears that the COVID wages are not being added to the rest of the SS or Medicare wages, so she is getting one of those error messages about numbers not tying out.  I looked through the columns, thinking the COVID might show up elsewhere, but it appears to just be gone.  The earnings were setup with the correct Tax Rules, but if you go into the Tax Summary Detail, of course this stuff shows up under OTHER instead of SS/Mcare wages.  The only option I see is to manually fix for now, but c'mon...

The Quarterly Tax Report is wrong even in the newest payroll version I believe.  The covid wages on the tax summary will be in the 'employee other' and will say Multi.
in the tax summary detail, go to the far right to find Employee Other and Employer Other.  The wages will be doubled as it includes the SS/Med wages (for Employee) and will be correct for Employer Other as it's Med only.
The W2 comes out correctly with all wages in their appropriate buckets and box 14 has the Covid Wages indicated.

Best way I proved this out was to set myself up as an employee and then do 1 payroll so I knew what numbers to be looking for.  In my test I paid Covid Wages and Regular wages with some pretax deductions in the same check as I was trying to replicate a customer environment.

Need a Covid guru!  Client paid $2K in Covid leave wages in the 4th quarter.  PR v2.21 is installed.  Client HR advisor stated that the $2K Covid Wages will be credited back via the 941.  The Aatrix 941 form is not calculating a credit.  Is the form working correctly or are the client's expectations not aligned properly?

    TIA

Did you clear the amount ends up in the rounding field?  That is field 7.

No, I left that thinking there was an error in another part of the form causing the $2,100 fractions adjustment.

NOW that warning that pops up during the initial 941 generation makes sense.  TY @Michelle Taylor!!!!

I believe that the amounts on Schedule B need to be adjusted for the expected credit, otherwise the credit gets included in the rounding box.

If the client used the COVID Earnings Codes in Sage, the new worksheet should pop up on the 941 showing the COVID earnings and COVID credit.  Which would also show on Line 11d of the 941.  Is that happening?

Yes, life is good (T shirt anyone?)!  This was my first encounter with a 941 with COVID earnings and I blew by the warning box (above).  As a result, when the form was completed, fractions field showed $2,100 plug.  Michelle refocused my view.  Appropriate adjustments in the liability section (not a schedule B filer) resulted in a form ready to be mailed.  Uncle Sam will be happy.

Now the client needs to figure out what to do with money.  Will recommend they set up a new account on the P/L for visibility.

Another question for the gurus's.  What COVID amount is supposed to appear in Box 14?  Is it the gross number or the taxable amount (net of pretax deductions)?  In other words, should it match the covid earnings code or could it be less?  Client is looking for method to validate what Aatrix is displaying.

I've been told by our payroll gurus that it's supposed to be the gross amount.

Very Interesting - Two of my CFO's tell me it is the net amount and have verified that Aatrix box 14 #'s reflect the net...

Here's the guidance - page 7 if you want to skip to the good part.  I read it as net as well, but am being told differently.  Since Sage released the Emergency Leave Worksheet, I don't rely on them for anything important related to COVID.  When I asked how they could be calculating insurance credits without taking into account any employer portions, first I got dead silence and then was told "I don't know - this is what we came up with after having many discussions on it."  Linda Cade was going on vacation and was going to review it on the plane but of course I never heard anything back and that was back when this all started.

Sorry, but I don't have time to do any more research on it.  All I can do is tell you I got it from our payroll gurus.  It says the same thing here.

Completely understand.  Don't spend any more time on it.  I can ask a local CPA for his insight....
