Customer has 55 Payroll companies. When I tried to do the Payroll Tax Update per the Covid-19 KB, it says one of the companies has an open batch and it cannot update the tax tables. It doesn't say which company has an open batch. I had to go checking through 47 companies until I found the culprit. Was there an easier way to do this (for next time)?

Start backwards next time?  That way you only have to check eight companies before you hit the jackpot......

Actually, very good question.  Maybe one of our MD members can answer.  If the install program can detect an open batch, then that same program can display a message detailing which company(ies) have active PR (something similar is done during legacy PR conversion with earnings and deduction codes).  Seems like in their haste to get the hotfix published, they overlooked a couple lines of helpful code.  I would also open a support case for it AND send a note to Linda Cade.  MAYBE something will be done so future installs go more smoothly.

Posting the question to Sage City might get Elliott's attention, and he's the one who would probably make the programming change anyways.

@Kenny Daniel - if you leave the tax update open on the page where you got the error, then go into Payroll Data Entry in ANY company, it will tell you that the update is in process and that you have payroll in process and it will give you the company codes that are the issue.

@Beth Bowers thank you for that. Not sure how you found that but it's great to know. It will definitely come in handy for all the times when Sage does not give that info.

Talked with Linda Raby about this.  She discovered that if you do the update and then hit the RESET button the next screen that comes up has a more info link that is supposed to show you the company with open data entry.  However,  the more info link was not available on my system.  :(
