I have reviewed the posts related to overriding the federal withholding taxes and spoke to Sage today about this issue but I am hoping that someone has a trick that will help my customer.  We upgraded from Payroll 1.0 to 2.X and several of the employees had a fed tax override percentage in place.  As we all know now, the percentage is not an override any longer but an additional percentage.  As the employee's pay rises and falls over a tax bracket ($12,000 one pay period and $20,000 the next), we cannot get a fixed 35% tax rate withheld.  Sage says this is working as designed.  Others on this site seem to agree.  Does anyone have any tricks that have been helpful?

    Thanks

Could you just give them something like 30 exemptions so the "standard calculated percentage" would be always be zero, and then set the additional percentage?  Or would the 30 exemptions over-ride the additional and still be zero percent?

That is a good suggestion David. I will give it a try and report back. Thanks

I think you can acutally click the exempt check box and then enter the override percentages.

Interesting idea Billy.  I will test that out.  Thanks

I always thought this Exempt button was for 'employee is not subject to federal taxes' (from the W4) and so if you run a payroll check, the wages will not show up in the 'federal wages' of the W2.  The tax may get deducted but the wages will be off.
Unless it's all changed in 2018 and above.

Thanks Nancy.  That "unforeseen issue" is what I am afraid of.  I am testing now.
