Wanting to make sure I don't misstep in the new Payroll -  conversion client never went back and put in tax rules for a couple of 401K deduction codes.
I know the best solution so as to not screw up taxes anywhere would be to reverse each paycheck since the upgrade and re-do them, but that's about 2 months and even that - we would have totally negative checks and totally positive checks and you can't just hand them the new positive checks...

Feel like I'm overthinking this, but also feeling pretty sure that whatever I come up with, it will not handle the taxable wages correctly.
    Anyone been through this?

Do it in a test company first to see if they resolve the issue where data gets messed up when doing negative pretax deductions.  I haven't had to do it for a while.  Run the fix with a normal payroll run, entering 1 negative deduction line for the total amount already withheld.  I wouldn't do each payroll separately.  Then enter a positive deduction using the new code you set up with the proper tax flag.

That's the one bad thing - they don't have any more payroll runs this quarter and they wanted to get it fixed in Qtr 2.

Have had similar fixes for the COVID earnings which worked.  Assuming it would work for deductions as well.  Do a negative check for made up earnings (e.g. 1000.00) AND the deductions.  Then correct via another check run.  Tweak the FIT/SIT withholding so that the net check amount matches both checks.

In the past (legacy) negative deduction (only) adjustments hosed the taxes.  I am thinking by adding some negative earnings into the equation, taxes would compute properly.

Probably a long shot, but perhaps this is your lucky day!
