Has anyone created a Payroll Data Entry VI import job where the source file contains the employee division and employee numbers, but not the employee key?  A client has the division/employee # in their third party product, but the PR_DataEntryHeader table contains only the employee key.  How have you overcome that?

@Susan Pawlowic - here's the Sage doc on it - you use a cryptic formula How to import into the EmployeeKey field when using Visual Integrator on Sage 100 2018 and higher

@Beth Bowers thank you!  I had totally forgotten about this, I think I used it once in 2018 or so.

I wonder why Sage wouldn't just build that logic into VI? Or am I missing some hidden hazard?

    Hi @Wayne Schulz,

I wondered that myself. I thought it was okay to use the Division and Employee Number for the key, and it turns out I was right. I just did a test in ABC Company in 2024 using an export to Excel of my employee list:

    11-0000100 THOMAS JERRY A.
    11-0000105 JENKINS ALLEN
    11-0000130 SHAW ARTHUR

    ..etc.

And voila, it appears to work:

    VI Job Log wEmp Nums
I find in interesting that the first article uses a formula to extract the Employee Key, but then it has a link to another article which says:
    • H.EmployeeKey
      • Formatted DD-XXXXXXX where DD=Dept No and XXXXXXX=Employee No
      • Refer to KB86744 - How to import into the EmployeeKey for more details
Your results may vary, but that's my little Q&D experiment (Quick & Dirty).

I'm not positive but I think at one time the formula was required. And then when Sage updated payroll the VI logic may have been updated as well?
