Please post here if you've done a Payroll 2.20 upgrade and let us know of any issues. We have a short timeframe to do some of these payroll updates.

    UPDATE:

    1. Data conversion is required after the update
    2. Workstations will run "workstation sync" upon the first login
    3. Some reports that PR forms could need updating using MASCRCW

Also, be sure to grab the hotfix for 12/31/2019 checks over withholding

I am unclear if the hotfix needs to be applied for PR 2.20.0.  It seems like it is only necessary if on PR 2.19.4.

That is what I saw and that seems to say the hotfix is included in 2.20.0.  Just confusing because I do not see in the PR 2.20.0 documentation that this was fixed.

Loaded 2.20 last night.  Customer called this morning.  Can no longer renumber an employee by changing the department.  I recreated this in the EEC company data.  If employee number is 01-1000, try to renumber to 02-1000 and it says the employee number already exists in department 01.  Sage support says working as designed so I am on the phone walking them through how this worked in payroll 2.19.  I told the customer the workaround I found is to renumber from 01-1000 to 01-9999 (bogus #) and then back to 02-1000.

I just installed in my local v2019.  The new fields (beginning with FMED and FSOC) do not appear in the "Z" tax profiles Sage provides.  If I create a new profile, the new boxes are present, and checked.  If I create a new tax profile and copy from a "Z" profile, they appear.  I ran the Payroll Tax update, but there is no update to install.

    Existing profile doesn't have them

    Tax Status check

I was able to successfully process a payroll in ABC company for an employee using the Z WI profile, but wondering what the effect will be in client systems if the profiles don't get updated.  Anyone else have this experience?

Always run the Payroll Status Check after installing any payroll programs.  This time it's failing on tax profiles and I'm using the fix icon which per KB article.  This is fixing them so I don't know if that's related to the issue that Barbara is seeing.  I ran a cursory payroll in my local installation after installing the new programs yesterday to make sure I didn't receive errors and saw the normal taxes, but didn't verify tax calculations.

    Last call.
Any significant issues that should prevent someone from installing payroll 2.20

    Also,

    1. Does it require a data conversion for each payroll company?
    2. Any other separate steps you had to take?

    TIA

I ran conversion using 'for all companies' checkbox.  Also go to Payroll Status in Utilities.  I had some error for MN and used the FIX button and not sure what it did but it fixed it.

    Yes to data conversion.
On one client I had to go into System Configuration and update the registration, but have not had to on 2 other clients.

It does require a conversion for each company.  Also, I had one instance where I had to run the customizer utilities afterwards, although I cannot be positive the issue was caused by the install.

Payroll tax update has been running over 40 minutes.  Activity log and installed modules don't show tax tables have been updated.
Should I change the file-flag, or wait until there's some sign the tax tables were installed?

@Barbara Goldstein  I didn't get the impression  that the forms conversion was automatic.  I ran the mascrcw.exe utility separately AFTER the installation to change the version number for PR forms.  For at least one client, it also requires the custom office PR REPORTS be converted as well.  Customer called in a panic running her last PR for the year.......

@Jeff Schwenk I've done my own local install and one client, and both prompted for the conversion.  I don't typically run MASCRCW after product updates because I don't expect forms to change except with major upgrades - until now, anyway.

A little different question on Payroll 2.20.  In the Federal Section, what does this mean?
FMED Excess GTL Coverage Tax WH  - both employee and employer
FSOC Excess GTL Coverage Tax WH - both employee and employer

I'm assuming it has to do with Group Term Life Coverage but what is FMED & FSOC?
The boxes came unchecked by default and guessing I can leave them unchecked and probably won't be used often with my clients, but would like to know what it means.

    Thanks

FMED and FSOC Federal Medicare and Federal Social Security.  The imputed value of excess group term life over 50 K must be reported on the 941 and W2 and is subject to FICA and Medicare.

Perpetual History purged.  Several clients are surprised when all of the perpetual history that used to be saved forever is now purged based upon the "Years to Retain Payroll History" in Payroll Options.  The year end close in PR ran for 2 days for one client with 20 years of payroll history that got purged off.  We have found that year end close can take up to 30 seconds per employee when payroll history is being purged.  Closing is not quick like it used to be.

Retirement Plan Box 13.  Several PR 2.20 clients, including our own system, where 1-2 employees with 401k contributions in 2019 have the Retirement Plan box in Employee Maintenance grayed out and unchecked.  It cannot be changed.  We have an open case with Sage and a call back set for Monday.  Appears only to be a problem with 2.20

We have a large client who converted to 2.20, and many of the Retirement Plan boxes are not checked when they should be.  We could import into that box if only we knew the filename to import into.   Does anyone know what file that Retirement Plan Box is in so we can do that import?

@Sue Bennett  @Nancy Hanson hit it square on the head.  PR_Employee.M4T.  A quick trick I use to track the table down is to make a change to the that field, save and exit.  Then drill down via explorer to the folder in question and sort by date.  The table should appear at the top or very close to it.  Saves a lot of time instead of looking through the file specs.

Anyone have any more information on the

FMED Excess GTL Coverage Tax WH - both employee and employer
FSOC Excess GTL Coverage Tax WH - both employee and employer

that @Nancy Hanson and @Doug Higgs commented on above?  Leaving them unchecked for now but not knowing remains a concern.

@Jeff Schwenk  I am not a practicing CPA so this advice is "as-is" and needs to be verified by your end user CPA or some other definitive source:  I do not believe these boxes need to be checked unless the employer provides group term life insurance to employees.  My understanding is that the imputed value of term insurance amounts over $50K is subject to FICA and Medicare.

I am not sure where in Sage 100 the imputed value is entered or calculated.  Further, I am not sure how the imputed value is calculated.  It sure would be nice if Sage had some detailed documentation on this issue.

Thanks.  My gut feeling is that you will then need to set up a separate tax group for GTL and assign it an earnings code for the GTL when used,

We are seeing this issue at some clients as well, including a big one with about 950 employees.....  Any updates from Sage?

Per our consultant that talked with Sage yesterday.  Sage stated this is a known problem but they can't figure out a pattern or reason.  Sage is working on it but typically sees it only impacting 1-2 employees per company.  We are supposed to let them know if we figure out a pattern.

I just reviewed the data from the large client and they have 169 employees where this is happening.  They can fix the check box in employee maintenance but the W-2 form is incorrect in Aatrix.  There is bad data in the PR_EmployeeHistory being used by Aatrix and it's easy to get an export of employees in 2019 that had a Pension Plan Amount but the flag is set to N - but I can't import the corrections back to that file because it's not listed in VI - WTH???

Bernie – It's there.  We've had to import into that field multiple times.  The table is PR_Employee, and the file is Retirement Plan – which is almost all the way at the bottom of the listed files.  (Hint:  You cannot type an "R" and hope to fine it – that doesn't work.)

    Hi Sue-
I was able to find the Retirement Plan field in the PR_Employee file and we also determined that when the first payroll of 2020 is run the box gets checked if the employee has a pension deduction.  That alleviates the need to manually re-check the box for 2020.  However, the issue I have is the Pension Plan flag in PR_EmployeeHistory is wrong on some employees and that screws up Aatrix.  I'm trying to import to the PR_EmployeeHistory file to correct the data for the 2019 records and it's not listed as an importable file in VI. I can export from the file so it'e easy to get the records that are incorrect but I can't fix them.

Several clients have just fixed the check box in Aatrix but some clients want it fixed.  I'm still stumped....

I'm not as well versed in PR2.0 yet but a brief look at the table gives me the impression that PR_Employee and PR_EmployeeHistory is meant to operate similar to SO_SalesOrderHeader and SO_SalesOrderHistoryHeader or SY_User and SY_UserHistory.
So if that is the case, does importing into PR_Employee to fix the problem records not update PR_EmployeeHistory?
Disclaimer, i have not tested importing into PR_EmployeeHistory but you can attempt the following to allow the table to be selected to import into.
If you really, really, really, want to attempt to import into PR_EmployeeHistory, you can use File > Run > SYZCON > DD > ENTER.
Select or type in PR_EmployeeHistory then click the Custom Info button.
Uncheck the "Exclude From VI Import" checkbox, click the Accept button, then click the Update File button.

Back to conversion and tax profile "fixes".  Client has multiple companies and two tax profiles (one used in some companies, the other in the other companies).  After install, I ran the PR Status check.  It only reported errors in one profile.  I fixed it.  Wondered why it didn't catch the other profile.  Ran the utility again and it reported errors with the other profile, which I then "fixed".  Odd, for the only other client that has multiple profiles, it reported errors with both when I ran the utility.  Anyone else seen this behavior?
