Paypal and Sage Payment Solutions. Has anyone n

Paypal and Sage Payment Solutions. Has anyone noticed that SPS seems to come in lower than what they quote in saving. Below is a note from a newbie client on MAS 200 and SPS. Yes, the integration is great, yes, there is compliance with the CC requirements. But it seems Sage quotes big savings but don't follow it up with actual savings. From the client. I don't know where Sage got their ""numbers"" to quote against Paypal but they definitely are NOT less. So far we are extrapolating them to be $700.00+ more based on the bills they have sent us. This really pisses me off as I don't appreciate being given crap numbers by them. I really was surprised when Cindy showed me the numbers. I'm going to think it over this weekend but my instinct is to get rid of them and go back to Paypal. I will also call our Paypal folks on Monday to see if they are able to integrate with Sage then decide later Monday. Im confident we can figure it out as I doubt every Sage customer is processing through these guys. They also logically would have difficulty beating a processor the size of Paypal.

Perhaps it's just me, but if I were dealing with an established business and their payment option was PayPal, I'd go elsewhere. It's fine for eBay and individuals, but for a business that wants respect, I consider it to be somewhat tacky.

@JohnHoyt - I'll see if I can rephrase that for them............................. Probably the toughest part of this conversion (from an AS400 for over 25 years) is refocusing the owners to think about other opportunities to impact their bottom line other than initial cost. I truly believe SPS does some bait and swithcing. Sage certainly doesn't help bey eliminating any competitive opportunities in v2013. After seeing how they handle CC's in the old system (they are very open to CC non compliance issues), the amount of effort wasted processing CC cards, the potential for shipping against a CC that is denied, the effort to retrieve the package and the effort to reconcile their CC statement more than offset the cost of SPS. Very frustrating ""battle"". ALL of the others are very grateful for the new system, just have to continue battling the owners to change their outlook and their ways..

@JeffSchwenk just to note, the SPS rates are impacted by several factors. The quote your client received is the optimal rate, if certain conditions exist when the cc is processed through SPS. As I recall the rates are cheapest when, 1. Address verification matches, including zip 2. The CVV code is used 3. The pre-authorization hasn't expired by the time the card is charged. 4. No charge backs have occured (I don't know the time frame on that) If the user isn't taking advantage of these then their rates will be higher.

@MoiraGoggin - Have sent a note to Tracey to let her explain what is going on. Client is supplying all the information to SPS that they were supplying to PayPal. Will be interesting to hear SPS's explanation.

Yes it will be interesting...also, have they done their first PCI scan? I forget to add that as it affects rates too.

Anyone know if PCCharge is still available for v4.5? That would be the only way he is going to be able to interface directly with PayPal.

It looks like it but it won't be an option with 2013.

It appears the link is still there in MAS in 4.5. They would most likely have to buy PCCharge Payment Server and support for it direct from Verifone, and there would not be any support from Sage for the link.

@ThereseLogeais Thanks, I understand that it is a limited fix. Just want to have the Ammo ready.

This is one of Sage's lame decisions, because they believe they will make more money as a processor and related financial transactions. If a client does not want to use SPS, they have no Sage ERP integration starting with 2013. There are also reasons why SPS will not accept a company based on their (risky) industry or credit history. We have been moving toward increased integration of systems, but this flies in its face. We need an alternative integration that provides what we had with PC Charge. I hate workiing with them, so perhaps an alternative will be developed.

Keep us posted as I am sure there will be a big demand for it.... And of course, they can make bucco bucks because end users are now without alternatives if they want an integrated system. Of course, there will always be the PapPal People......

We'll probably also find out that the Sage MD agreements prohibit them offering an alternative.

Even though I jumped a tier last quarter, I feel like complaining about Sage even more. I wonder if I make it to Diamond can I have personal bitch sessions with Pascal? Oh, wait, my French is non-existent, and he has no clue about anything except X3.

Don't knock paypal. They aren't just the 'freebie' way to send money when you buy used clothes on ebay anymore. They are a full credit card processing company and essentially a bank and are waaay bigger than SPS. You can fully take credit cards with paypal as well.

@MarkChinsky - Do you know if PC Charge supports PayPal?

    - I am really curious about SPS' response. I think it's important to make them uncomfortable if they mislead (which is not clear in this case) - It is constantly amazing to find business owners who obsess on the line items even though the bottom line is more. But then again, they ARE coming from AS 400 after all these years; you knew they would be odd.

Not sure about PC Charge & PayPal. I agree the client sounds cheap minded and 'penny wise, pound foolish' but that still doesn't justify untrue claims by SPS IF what your client is saying is true.

I use Paypal. It allows me to accept VISA/AMEX all online via terminal. I'm a very infrequent user. Also I've had customers go to SPS and claim they only process $2,500 a month then pop in $150,000. This was a rare book dealer where those types of transactions happened ever few months but not regularly. I think some of the rating is determined by the history with the company. Also if you think in year or two that Sage Payments will give two flying ##### about an integrated customer - think again. Just look at the non-effort Sage puts into their ERP. Once Sage has a customer hooked they are not likely to work harder to change an integrated customer's processing fee. PS - Be careful with third party credit card integrators who promise they have a solution to integrate to 2013. At least one of them has recently been de-authorized and I expect Sage will be aggressive in this area.
