Sage Partner Post on Sage Community/Sage City:
We will soon be notifying customers about an upcoming change to how Paya, a Nuvei Company, manages Vault-only customers within Sage 100, effective August 1, 2024.
Starting August 1, Sage 100 customers will no longer be able to add credit card information for new customers unless they have a Paya, a Nuvei Company, merchant account or another merchant account. This will prevent the creation of new Vault-only accounts with Paya, a Nuvei Company, as they phase out support of Vault-only usage in Sage 100 to improve security and payment card industry (PCI) compliance. Sage 100 customers attempting to create a new Vault-only account will receive a message directing them to contact their partner for assistance with merchant account options.
For existing Vault-only customers, they will be able to maintain their current Vault-only records as-is. However, if existing customers attempt to copy a company, they will only be able to do so if the merchant remains unchanged. If an existing Vault-only customer copies a company and attempts to associate a different merchant, Paya, a Nuvei Company, will prevent the creation of a new record. Existing customers will be able to copy a company for the purpose of changing the company/customer name only.
If you have any questions about this change, please contact Paya, a Nuvei Company, directly at 1-800-261-0240. If customers would like to continue using Paya, a Nuvei Company's, integrated vault services, they can setup a merchant account by calling 1-800-652-2370.

The writing has been on the wall for a while on this. Paya updated Paya Desktop so that credit card numbers are now fully encrypted unless you go to the Paya Vault ( only if you are a  Paya customer ). So in essence the vault isn't really useful for much of anything. Customers may fall back to using a Word or Notepad document.

I've got $200 that says Sage doesn't make any customer notification and instead relies on the partners to carry the message.

Unfortunately it appears there isn't anyone currently monitoring Sage City, i.e. seems like KathleenF has been MIA the past few months.  I wonder if it's now MELISSA WILSON who posted the 2.24.1 P/R Update two weeks ago.

Elliott directly responded to an IRP Question I had recently.  Then Karen McWhirter created a knowledgebase article to address my question (and emailed me).  This is an unfortunate situation for our clients.

    Any ideas of this section:

For existing Vault-only customers, they will be able to maintain their current Vault-only records as-is.

It's not clear to me if this means that an existing vault-only Sage 100 customer could add a new AR customer to their system and also add in a credit card to the vault. Or, is this saying that an existing vault-only Sage 100 customer can maintain the records they have but won't be able to add any new ones?

Overall I'm unsure it really matters since if the user cannot see the full credit card number (which they haven't been able to do since the desktop update started to display masking except for the last four digits)  the whole practice of using vault-only is marginally useful. I have a few edge cases where I've been after them for years to integrate credit cards and this should be the push they need to get integrated.

For clarity - and borrowing Kevin's image from his Sage community post

If I were a business owner I would want very (very) few of my employees to be able to view a full credit card number.

As a Sage VAR I don't want to get a call from a new CFO asking why all their employees can see the full credit card number, etc.

I don't want access to tax ID numbers or credit card numbers. Having some type of breach has the potential of such an incredible liability that there's not a fee high enough that I could charge to want to worry about a customer/owner/CFO coming to me asking why all their data was exposed.

EBiz sent this communication out over the weekend related to their solution and Sage 100.  "As a valued EBizCharge partner, I wanted to address a new security update that you may have received from Sage regarding Sage 100 Vault-only accounts. EBizCharge wants to assure you that this update will not affect our solution in any way, and merchants do not need a Paya merchant account to use our product.  EBizCharge vaults and stores all its own information and is 100% PCI compliant. Therefore, there is nothing merchants need to do to continue with our solution and service."
