Exactly. The last time we looked (when it was called Sage Payment Solutions), the Paya devices (sourced from Paya) are connected to the workstation via USB and simply do the data entry when connected to the local SED service... with no secure way to use such a USB device when Sage workstation is not running locally (i.e. Sage is remote, run through a terminal server).
Whether these are always single use transactions, or if you can save the card for future transactions... I'm not sure.
Note: in Canada we've been using chip-and-pin (credit / debit) pretty much everywhere for more than a decade, and it has been a bit frustrating for a couple of our customers that this technology is not the norm in the Sage 100 world.
During a recent upgrade I noticed this (below) in the APS / Repay instructions, which seems to imply a cloud service bridge between Sage and the device, but as usual, these things are not explained in detail... plus I have no intention of volunteering one of our customers to live on that bleeding edge.

If its leveraging SED, it would be using Sage/Paya to process. Just like Magtek is the swipe style device that uses SED.
However, I don't think they have ever figured these out to work over term server, just an FYI. That's where I need them to work for multiple clients.
