@Jeff Schwenk Agreed. There's not practical business reason I can think of. There's some "out there" reasons such as if there could be more than 999,999 journals in a two year period you may need to reset at the end of each year. I am reasonably certain a customer wouldn't be using Sage 100 if they had that king of volume.

Change it in Source Journal Maintenance on the Setup Menu in GL. Sounds like the issue people who reset their journal numbers get with Direct Deposit each year.
If your client resets Journals at year/period end (see GL options), this will be a continuing thing. You'll need to set to No Reset and change the Next number in Source Journal Maintenance to the next in sequence after you sort the columns and see what the last one was.
