  • 1.  Option to convert Crystal during Company Conversion

    Posted 11-08-2021 15:08
Has anyone actually had this work?  Each time I select it, and each time I then go manually run mascrcw.exe and still come up with a bunch of reports that need converting.  What the what?

Agreed!  I love that Sage added that option. It was a great idea!  Too bad it doesn't ever seem to work!!

I thought that @Jeff Schwenk came across some hidden gotchas - from memory it might have been something like you had to run conversion for all companies and only then could you convert Crystal. I seem to remember this from maybe 1 year ago

If not this exact case I think something similar

Yes, @Wayne Schulz good memory.  You get one shot to run the Crystal conversion for all companies.  If not done for all the first time. it doesn't work after that.  Another idea not fleshed out fully.

And that's exactly what I do, @Wayne Schulz, because I remembered that post, too.  To top it off, last week I had an upgrade with a LOT of companies (mostly old backup PRs, but had been converted before in 2018, so no need to do them separately) and choosing to convert ALL companies left 2 companies unconverted with no error message - client just contacted me later with the "must convert files" message and asked if she should do it.

In thinking about this further, I believe the issue I experienced was in converting data files, not Crystal.  You get one chance to convert ALL companies.  I imagine the same logic applies with Crystal.  I also wonder how files are searched for.   There is the reports folder but files can also be located in the MAS_System folder as well as every mas_xxx folder.  Reading these posts, I take the safe option by running mascrcw.exe manually, searching through all folders under the MAS90 directory.

Occasionally I'll have it work for a small portion of the files.  One time I remember it made it through company forms, but not System forms or custom reports.  My theory is that it must be crashing somewhere early in the process, so it looks like it fails completely (no text file log created).  I've seen mascrcw crash when trying to convert an ancient report, and think that must be it... the program scanning Reports, finding something ancient, then choking on it.
Nice idea, but useless in the real world if it doesn't run 99% of the time.
