Optimizing a virtual server for v2017 Advanced - D

Optimizing a virtual server for v2017 Advanced - Does anyone have any guidelines for configuring a virtual server or share a link?. I know there is the SPM but that appears to be minimum set up. Just moved a client from STD to ADV and just not seeing the ""pop"" that I normally see. Even running from the server is dog slow. And of course, I get the deer in the headlights look from the IT department. TIA

Assuming the folder is excluded from any AntiVirus?

How many cores and how much RAM allocated to the VM? How many VMs are sharing a physical disk and what kind is it?

Use Task Manager to check the number of CPU cores. My guess is they left it with only 1 vCPU.

All good responses. But what are the OPTIMAL settings to pass along to IT. @PhilMcIntosh Box with two VM's. Sage has 10 GB allocated. @SteveIwanowski - I believe it is one core. What is recommended? @BethBowers - Per IT. the AV setting is EXACTLY the same as the STD VM server. They have the KB article on excluding extensions.

Sage processes are (mostly) single-threaded, so I use a minimum of 2 vCPU / 4GB RAM, though you may want 3 vCPUs depending on the processor (most CPUs are better in pairs, but some hex-cores work better in threes). I don't usually go much higher than 4 vCPUs since its diminishing returns...

I would suggest starting with the vCPUs as @SteveIwanowski suggests, and making sure the AV exclusions from the workstation side have been updated.

This KB article might help. We've seen this a couple places.

Has anything changed in the six plus years since this thread was last posted to ?  Still battling the slowness.  Two different clients supported by the same IT company.

    TIA

What OS is running on the VMs?   I have seen horrible performance from Server 2019 on a VM

Are you still seeing this despite adding vCPU? It would be helpful to list what has been done since your list inquiry.
