One more item to add to the bottom of your upgrade checklist test your Administrator login password after migrating and converting. I recently upgraded a client from 4.30 to 4.50. Installed fine, passwords fine on both versions. Client only wanted to move some of the companies to the new version so we migrated the list they wanted to upgrade. Oops, missed one. Went back to migrate the missing company and my Administrator password no longer worked in version 4.50 or 4.30. Somehow the program wiped out both passwords. Sage tech support said they had heard of this before but didn't know the cause and we had to go thru the whole reset password procedure. Now I wonder how many of my passwords are gone and I just don't know it yet since I didn't test on my previous upgrades.

This is stored in ..\MAS_SYSTEM\SY_SYSTEM.M4T -- good to keep a spare.

And I've had this happen repeatedly -- sometimes the system does not seem to check when you go to upgrade and it asks for the old system admin passwords, other times it seems to change it randomly.

I just did one last night and I had to use the OLD level's administrator password where it should have used the new one. I also said NO to system files and it still brought over the users and roles. 4.50 has brought more funky issues than I have seen in a while.

Thanks Wayne. I will add to make a copy of that file at the top of my upgrade checklist! Question - if your password gets wiped out, can you just add the entries back to #21 AdminPassword$ or do you need to replace the file?

    Encrypted though

Rats! Knew that would be too easy.

If you have recorded the encripted version, you should be able to type that in. Nice that DFDM can be used from another install.

OK Everyone needs to be on double secret probation on this one. In a install where you know the admin password use DFDM and go into the SY_System file and copy the encrypted password and paste into a text file. Save that file to a flash drive that you keep with you. When this happens you can just use DFDM to go into the file and copy from your text file into sy_system and now you know the admin password.
