Does anyone have any insight into how Sage is planning to handle this new Act that went into effect on July 1, 2025?  I know there is a Tax Rule for Exempt Overtime, does that only exempt federal taxes, or all taxes?  It looks to me that it goes retro to 1/1/2025 to account for full year 2025.  I do not want to assume, but will the employees that worked overtime from 1/1/2025 - 6/30/25 claim their overtime on their W-2 and then just get refunded when filing taxes, or are employers expected to credit the federal taxes in future payrolls?

Any insight would be appreciated.  Thank you!

You are jumping the gun. IRS will have to digest all this and issue some rules before it can be addressed.

Sage has posted a KB article here.

I believe the Sage KB title is misleading as the new law appears to allow eligible taxpayers to claim a deduction/credit when they file their tax returns. I'm unsure that this law requires OT withholding to stop. I am also not a practicing CPA so please do not rely on my interpretation of tax law.

That's how I read it, too, @Wayne Schulz.  With there being a limit, and people can be working more than one job, I don't see that actually stopping withholding makes sense, because then folks could end up owing.

Not to mention that completing the W-4 form more than once every 10 years requires an MBA in taxation. There's no way the W-4 form would ever be understandable by the typical taxpayer.

The latest I heard was that the overtime exemption is claimed when you file your 1040.

I agree @Wayne Schulz - I get many calls from my IA clients asking about how to synch the IA W-4 with Sage PR.
