Everyone forgets that this mostly started because poor Lucy was afraid of getting hurt. (although, back then, it was Violet holding the ball, not Lucy) http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sIHE-BqkaJs/UuhEq-dnA8I/AAAAAAAAgYk/cXTwz6HsNH0/s1600/Charlie+Brown+and+Violet+pulls+football+away-2+panel+a.jpg

Yep. Although in fairness, Sage Florida (HRMS) has been a sleepwalking, slo-mo trainwreck for some time now.

So true. And heaven forbid Sage invest in their own product, instead they choose to invest in Fairsail.

The Sage Group plc (""Sage"") announces that it has entered into an agreement to acquire 20.7% of the issued share capital of FAIRSAIL LIMITED (""Fairsail"") for total consideration of 10m. Fairsail is a privately owned software developer providing human capital management (""HCM"") cloud solutions for mid-sized businesses. Sage has also extended its partnership agreement with Fairsail to offer its cloud HCM products as an integrated solution for Sage's leading business management system, Sage X3. Sage also intends to implement the Fairsail product as its global HCM solution. Stephen Kelly, a Director of Sage was until recently a minority shareholder in Fairsail. The transaction is a smaller related party transaction under LR 11.1.10.R. - See more at: http://www.sage.com/company/investors/regulatory-announcements/2016/05/05/smaller-related-party-transaction#sthash.hFKbyyww.dpuf

I don't think this passes the smell test. Stephen Kelly getting rich?

Interesting the company name begins with ""fair"" and ends with ""sail"". Sage fairly sure we are going to sail away...?

I think the partnership is aimed more at HCM for Sage Live than for X3.

I don't think so. They talk specifically about X3 and middle to upper middle market companies. Sage Live is for Pizzarias, hair dressers and fuller brush salespeople

Agree - this is an X3 deal. Maybe more if they can shoehorn it in. Up next, if not already, should be a Salesforce CRM -> X3. Seems only logical.

I meant strategically. Sage looks at force platform as its future, apparently. 10 years from now, it expects most of its money to come from the force platform, no? Do you think Fairsail would have accepted Sage if it thought Sage was only interested in x3 integration? And, Sage could have arranged the X3 integration without investing. Regardless of who's right, this deal, and the way Sage handled it, is more fuel for speculation that Sage's legacy products will be owned by some other group in 5 years -- UK is not interested in them beyond providing a vehicle to get to ForceOne.

I think Sage is in the process of throwing spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks.

The problem is with the spaghetti on the wall process is that they don't follow up with improving what stuck or bother to clean up the wall when it is time to move on....

Sage thinks the more they associate themselves with a 'cool' brand like Salesforce and get to use the words 'cloud' in their Public statements, that the higher their market valuation will be.

FWIW, I don't think Sage has an achievable strategy. It's just that they **think** their strategy is ""Let the [sales]Force be with us.

It's not just the spaghetti on the wall approach - it's ""let's change chefs as many times as possible and have them throw spaghetti on the wall"". The turnover in the last 24 months has to be an all time high.
