On Sage 100 2015 Std, I have one user who intermittently is getting Deferred as the only printer option. Any ideas? He never seems to lose access to the network or the printer.

He's the only user out of 10 to have the problem.

check their printers and look for a printer marked as default that is unavailable.

Verify in Devices and Printers that the default printer is not the sage PDF CONVERTER... and also turn off the feature to have windows reset default printer...

Just had a customer with the same problem this morning. Asked him to verify his default printer was valid and that resolved it.

The default printer is valid when it is happening.

And there aren't any printer errors like out of paper or toner when this happens? I've seen the stupidest issues/errors with the default printer cause this symptom. It seems anytime a sage task starts and it queries the printers, if there is ANY issue with ""default"" printer, you will get the ""DEFERRED"" as the only option.

That's their story. It happens intermittently ""about every 10-20 times "" he prints. He supposedly can jump into Word or Excel and print while waiting for it to clear up. It is a networked printer.

What version of Windows? Windows 10 has a handy (NOT) option to allow Windows to manage the printers. ""Let Windows manage my default printer"" in Printers and Devices. I have had better luck with Sage and printing with this Windows option unchecked.

I usually start troubleshooting this with verifying share access to the .rpt file. In theory a mapped drive with alternate credentials could give intermittent connectivity issues.

Do they have any forms that he may be printing to where the last user selected a printer that perhaps isn't available to this users computer? I've had issues where a group of order entry people would go to print a form and there was one desktop that didn't have the exact named printer and when they went to print the form it remembered the last printer and was causing issues.

    I'll check that out @LilaKorb.

I have a client with this issue. I resolved it by stopping and restarting the print spooler under services. It keeps happening so for now I put the services icon on his desktop and showed him how to stop and start the print spooler.

I started there @KevinMoyes. Same drive mapping.

Check for hung print tasks, permissions on workstation and devices to printers and Sage directories, valid printers in device and printer, Webroot files exclusions in place, valid port for Sage PDF converter, use a mapped rather than non-mapped local post. And concur with @MicheleHerzog stop start print spooler. Check drive space too.

    WIFI or Wired connection?

you mentioned it is a networked printer, is this a printer physically connected to the network by itself or is it attached to another pc and shared? are they using group policy? if using group policy, is printer pruning enabled? if it is a network shared printer and printer pruning is enabled, then windows may be periodically trying to communicate with the printer and any interruption may be causing the workstation to think the printer can't be reached at that moment and until the next time the spooler checks the connection it won't be corrected, this is why restarting the spooler tends to resolve this issue. i believe their is a group policy setting to determine the time between checking the connections to network printers.

Make sure the user has unchallenged access to the MAS90 folder and below in file explorer.

cleaning up printer drivers for printers no longer on the network may help
