On a demo today Leanne Lowe announced that later this year Sage will move to using Skytap for their demo images. Essentially this is a cloud based virtual machine. No more Technet. This looks to be a much better solution since you can demo from anywhere you have a web browser and no more managing images on laptops. (Yes, you will likely need an Internet connection - and no I don't know how they manage offline use). http://www.crunchbase.com/company/skytap

Skytap is a good resource. I wondered how they would deal with Technet's demise.

I doubt Skytap has anything to do with Technet. Just because your demo VM is in 'the cloud' has no bearing on the licensing issues of the underlying OS & SQL Database. That is unless they have some special deal with MS that bundles that in. The real question is, how would they deal with Skytap's demise? I see its a company living on the backs of VC's for the last 7 years. That's alot longer than most VC's want to be in a company. I watched their demo video in the link. I swear these companies assume they will get a certain number of millions from the VC's as a proportion of the number of times they can jam the word 'cloud' into their explainer video

I don't know but am guessing that Sage will charge a fee equal to or greater than what Skytap charges for the remote access. The fee likely covers the use of Microsoft OS and technologies? Since this is only a method to demo systems if Skytap were to go away Sage would find another VC fueled cloud hosting company..

We should rename 90minds, Cloud90 and then could get a few million easy to build this :)
