OK, not sure what is going on here but I would like an answer. Last Thursday, Beth Bowers posts a Wells Fargo issue. See link below. https://90minds-com.socialcast.com/messages/39241947?ref=stream I respond with ""Have fun with WF. Sometimes I mutter WTF when having to deal with them..."" Doesn't answer her question, but it lets her know that this could be a frustrating issue to resolved especially IF she finds a knowledgeable person at WF to assist. On Friday, when I see the post, it now reads - Have fun with WF. Sometimes I mutter *** when having to deal with them... **NOT** what I typed the day before. I try to correct, but when I type WTF (or W*T*F if the auto redaction works on admin pages), it automatically is changed to ***. W*T*F! What has changed in the past day? On Friday, Sue Bennett starts a post on the Sage chargebacks. https://90minds-com.socialcast.com/messages/39242946?ref=stream It elicited many responses including one from Peter Wolf _I think @SueBennett 's point is most relevant. Would any of us go back, hat in hand, to our customers and ask for more money based on an accounting error on our part? Not that Sage is going hat in hand - it's more like ""too f--king bad, we are taking the money from you"". They really are not very classy people. Who's fault is it they spent tens of millions chasing some Salesforce cloud dream? Why do we partners and their long-time customers have to foot the bill for all their poor choices? Sorry to vent. I'll try to work in more snarky sarcasm and less pointed truths in my next rant._ In it, he partially spells ""f**king"". But nearly a week later, **his** post has not been altered in any way, shape or form. WHAT is going on here? At the risk of appearing paranoid, but there seems to be some selective, behind the scene censorship at work. Less than 24 hours after I type WTF (W*T*F), it is redacted but nothing has happened with Peter's f**king. Did Robert go on vacation before having a chance to apply the same standard? Did someone else take it upon themselves to do the deed? This is NOT the first time I have been bleeped or deleted!!! The bigger question is ""Do we have a written usage policy to guide our user posts? I do not recall one. If we **DO**, I would like to see it. Do we really want to become the overseer of politically correct language? Where do we begin? Start with FCC's list of seven verboten words? What next? Four letter words like Sage? Or other acronyms like DSD, SWK, ROI, WTH, etc? Do we watch for content, innuendo or other type of shade? It was an issue when someone disparaged SWK a while back and that person was defended in his right to speak freely when SWK supposedly got mad. Or am I just being paranoid? Another issue that I have is that in every occurrence that I have been bleeped, **NO** one had the decency to call me to discuss why something was offensive. Big Brother just did it. Which is **REALLY** irritating, not from a board member perspective, but from a user perspective. If you feel the ""need"" to edit/delete a post, contact the user **FIRST**! Last I looked, the average age of our membership was in the 40's. In my book, that would qualify as adults. Adults that have heard this type of talk for 30 + years. Don't we have better things to do?

Moira updated the profanity filter last week. She emailed me but in getting ready for my trip, I didn't react/respond. She added N A Z I last year I think. I'm not really big on censorship but didn't really care too much. I'm not sure what the motivation was.

Although, I have been tempted to add ""Sage"" to the list before.

Gorgeous and one of the coolest cities I've ever been to. To think that there are structures here that are older than our oldest cities by centuries is absolutely mind boggling. We have no concept of what ""old"" is. The few original stained glass windows in Notre Dame take my breath away. I was literally holding my breath unconsciously. When you see the reproductions that they have used for the windows they replaced you really get the difference. The food is to die for. Tomorrow night: Moulin Rouge.

BTW, with very few exceptions, I don't delete posts without talking to the poster. Sometimes before and other times after. The biggest exception is Chinsky when he posts his commercials. I got tired of explaining it to him. We cannot edit posts as administrators. We can and do have words filtered. We can remove posts. That last is something we try not to do. @JeffSchwenk if any of your posts got removed without someone reaching out to you, I apologize.

I am seriously thinking about moving the world HQ for a few months across the pond. If Dan Burleson can do it for two months in Bali, why not?

The rent is much higher in Paris than it is in Bali.

Oui, Oui. Maybe the eastern edge of France, maybe Germany.

The WTF embargo has been lifted. Please don't abuse it, @JeffSchwenk. In the membership committee, we discussed the idea of the profanity filter and will be working on a list of terms beyond the rudimentary list we had before. Also, with the tools of Higher Logic, it will be easier for users to report offensive posts so that moderators can address any issues. So standards will need to be developed. We will work on that as a committee. It's tricky because words are instruments that we wield and how we wield them is where they become weaponized. ""You are f**king awesome!"" is an example of a way that a ""bad word"" can have a positive meaning. I also know one person who uses ""You're so pretty"" as a way of calling someone stupid.

*** TY @RobertWood Getting big like FB is such a pain. I like ""Isn't that sweet"". And let's not forget, NOT being able to use a word is a form of weaponization as well!

We have signed this agreement with Higher Logic. I suppose you can argue 'how you raise your children'. I'll post for the full link again, it was posted in Drive before.

@MoiraGoggin could you direct me to the section relating to profanity? I've found the section on obscene.

@MoiraGoggin, I have read part of it. It doesn't say anything about profanity. It does talk about obscene material but profanity isn't necessarily obscene unless it's used obscenely. I'm trying to find the specific clause you are basing your position on.

Here is what I'd like to propose, instead of focusing on the specifics, could we instead focus on setting up a process of reviewing and setting community standards? And add to that a process for submitting and reviewing complaints.

    Posted 12-14-2018 11:03
We already have community standards, don't we? And yes, the standards should be reviewed as needed, which is the point of reviewing them now as we transition to HL. Members file a form when posts have language they find inappropriate to conducting business? I wonder how many we'll just opt out of renewing their membership instead of having to fill out a form to 'complain'.

Has it really been an issue in the past? I don't think so! Robert has done a good job of handling things when they arise on a case by case basis. We are all adults in the room. We don't do political stuff. Chinsky knows to stay away from that and obvious self promotion. Doesn't HL have a ""button"" to alert the moderator of an offensive post? I seriously don't think anyone will drop out and if they do, the issue can be dealt with at that time.
