OK. I am going to put this in the Urgent section because I need an answer. I have a couple clients on SQL but they are very self sufficient and already have SQL licensing for other products. 1. How many SQL CALs are used by Sage 100, Sage FAS and Altec DocLink? 2. Can I run Altec Doc-Link on the Sage Runtime License of SQL and be within the licensing agreement? 3. Is there much advantage to the ""preconfigured""? Will this get in the way with installing the other products?

SQL Cals are by the user - so how ever many Sage users - that's how many SQL Cals you would need (anyone using the application has to have a CAL).. I would check with FAS and DocLink about whether there is an additional requirement for those programs.. If the client already has SQL installed then you could have them install a separate instance for Sage. The Sage 2016 install manual has how it needs to be configured on pages 105-107. The SQL server needs appropriate resources to support another SQL instance, same as you would if you purchase the Sage Runtime Edition through Sage. I've never used the 'preconfigured' from Sage - if our client doesn't already have SQL server we purchase it with # of CALs needed.. Also - from what I understand - you can ONLY run Sage products on the Sage Runtime License (see page 22 of the Sage 2016 install manual) .

So, does that include Sage partner products like Altec Doc-Link?

Yes, If it integrates with Sage it is OK to have it on the SQL Server you purchase from Sage. Note that this is a license restriction only, there is no physical block.

I figured it was not a software restriction but I also did not want to sell them a solution that would leave them in a inappropriate licensing situation. I cannot find anyone at Sage to answer that question.
