Now this is a classic. Received an email today from a new client. They are using v3.74 SQL. Here's the email (in part): "" I've put together a preliminary list of the items we're going to need to be moving from ABC to XYZ: Customers, with all related SO and AR transactions. Vendors, with all related PO and AP transactions. Items, with all transaction details And of course, the GL with all transactions All data from 2012 and 2013 Please give me a call to discuss this project so we're ready to merge on 1/2."" Seriously folks, I know there is no way this is happening on 1/2/2014, BUT, has anyone successfully merged 2 companies together? I haven't looked but I pray at least the GL periods and year ends are the same. Any advice on what can or should be merged? I don't have an issue merging master files if there are no same items, but the history and other (many other) data files could be a nightmare.

I acquired one of my better customers because another partner tried ""merging"" - i.e. importing in - all history. They were waiting to upgrade until all the history was brought over. When I asked why they didn't just use the existing companies for lookup purposes, he said, ""We can do that?"" And then we upgraded and simply changed security on the ""old"" companies. Now one of my favorite customers!

Too bad they are on SQL ASI has a product to merge companies. I hear it works very well. About to test it for a client that wants to merge three companies in the near future.. http://www.asifocus.com/

Thanks for the info. This has ""no win situation"" written all over it. I'm going with Therese's advice and hope they buy into it.

I managed to use VI to merge two companies back in version 4.10. It actually turned out pretty well.
