So, in 2014, Sage buys paychoice for US$157 Million, which equates to 9.4 βλ (buttloads).  In 2019, they sell Sage Payroll to iSolved for 78 Million pounds (still alot of βλs and over $90 Million). So, there is no full service payroll anymore, right?  Nothing that integrates out of the box to the payroll employee list, etc.

    Not that I know of.
We are implementing iSolved t&a for a small customer now. It has lots of flexibility, and dumps into a file for VI to import to Sage. I don't know about the iSolved payroll product.

It amazes me that Sage's claim to fame (according to Sage) in the UK are their payroll solutions, and they can't seem to make it work in the US. I imagine that ADP and their competitors are not as prolific in the UK, so Sage becomes the leader in this area.

Remember when Sage’s strategy was movement of money - payments, payroll and accounting. Kelly referred to this as the golden triangle.

    So much for plan a.
I’m still curious what plan b is.

That strategy always felt to me like UK looking for a way to transform into a sort of services firm in which everything would run on automatic. They would no longer have to deal with difficult software, tech support, and partners. And yet, most of Sage execs have NO idea what it takes to keep customers in a competitive environment.

My experience with Sage Payments seemed to bear that out. When first launched, they had great integration to Sage 100, they offered great rates to customers on adoption, and the field reps for it were great. That didn't last long. Other firms developed as good, and then better integration. SPS started finding ways to get more $$ from existing customers. Then, when the great field reps became too expensive, they were fired and their commission agreements reneged on.

I think that in their bones, many UK execs and BOD wish they weren't in the software business, but could still be categorized by FTSE as a "tech company."

So, there is no real Plan B.
