New user of Sage 100c 2017 - they create items that are serialized and on some of them would like these to be kit type items so they have the capability of exploding components to an order. In looking at the BOM help files it appears that items that are standard or serial costing (which this user is planning to use) cannot be set as kit type items which would seem to preclude me from exploding the components onto an order in situations where they sell it as an unfinished kit. Am I reading this right, and if so are there any workarounds aside from the obvious (don't use serialized or standard cost)?

One workaround might be to create a sales kit where the serialized item is a component. The main issue there is sales tracking as Sage only tracks the main kit item unless you use an enhancement to explode kit items as regular items.

Yes, the serialized item must be a component of the kit/BOM, thus no standard tracking.

SO-1068 Kit Explosion to Convert Components to Items. Without this enhancement I've found that if defined as a kit and exploded then the top level Bill is the only item tracked by Sage 100 for sales purposes and the components are not tracked for sales . I've sold this enhancement 2x and it works great. The main issue has been catching this little gotcha before the customer asks why their sales of components aren't showing as they expect.

Went through and tested a few BOM creations for serialized items. They created the top level item as an average cost / kit type. Then their subassemblies were serialized which worked well for them. So far.
