New MAS200 v4.5 install - WIN 2008 R2 Server. Client is migrating from AS400 and has a collection of workstations that are set up as a peer to peer connection (if that) taht basicly independent of each other. The network router assigned the IP's to each workstation. The question is do the workstations NEED to be added to the new domain in order to access MAS 200 or can we just map a drive to the MAS folder and NOT add the workstation to the domain? Ideally, we would add them to the domain but that does entail extra effort for the IT tech.

Dunno but remember that the MAS200 server must have an account that can see UNC (not all can - including the System account) or paperless barfs. BTDT

They don't HAVE to be added to the domain BUT the IT staff has a secure network they will need to get involved to allow non-domain access. They probably won't like that idea and WANT to bring them into the domain.

The IT person is asking the question. I think they want to minimize their work required up front...........

If their network is setup to not allow everyone access then they can use the Client/Server ODBC driver to eliminate the dependance on network file shares (assuming MAS 200 is in the domain). Who do you want to incur the expense - you or them?

Duh, this was a Value Pricing engagement!!!! None of this was brought up during the planning phase. Their IT staff can add the users to the domain to make my life simpler...........

There you go. And next time you do a similar engagement, you add that element in. More importantly ... what are they doing with their free Sage CRM engine and free Sage CRM user? :)

Jeff, your first Change Request. Give them the option..either they do it or you do it. If you do it, give them a price.

@PeterWolf , CRM is Phase II. I'll be calling once we are further along with the MAS install. @JohnShaver - Excellent suggestion! Thanks

No workstations do not NEED to be members of the domain to run MAS 200. Any file security will need to be managed as local users on the Win 2008 server. Of course there'll be no integrated security between MAS 200 and the domain. Actually, you don't even need a domain setup. Myron Stevenson Clearis Consulting, Inc.
