  • 1.  .NET 4.8 required" message appears when installing workstation client

    Hopefully this saves someone a 5:30 pm Sunday Urgent Support post

    Summary

    ".* NET 4.8 required" when installing Sage 100 2023 workstation client even though it's already installed or NET 4.8 installation loops.

    Cause

    .NET 4.8.03761 or older versions may cause this issue. The issue may occur with .NET 4.8.03761 or older versions.

    The .NET Framework version installed on a machine is listed in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full. 

    Resolution

    • Upgrade to supported version of Windows 10 (known to occur on Windows v. 1909, which is no longer supported by Microsoft)
    • Install workstation client using Sage 100 Standard 2023 Workstation.msi installer from Admin Command Prompt

     NOTE: Sage will provide support if you are on the supported version of Windows. For more info, refer to https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/supported-versions-windows-client

    And good luck if the customer isn't on some type of managed desktop where the workstations are centrally managed. Thankfully most big sites have gotten away from the individually managed workstations however some still exist. 

    Anticipating the response of "well, just click on update Windows".

    The issue is that many (but not every) sites don't allow their users enough access to desktops where the end user can casually update their Windows.

    Good to know! I think the only Sage feature that specifically uses this higher version of .NET 4.8 Framework is the oAuth emailing (instead of SMTP).
