Need to purge older payroll history. Running a custom report using PR_22 and PR_23, and PR_90 and it takes an hour to generate. Will setting the ""Years to Retain eFiling Check History"" in Payroll Options to a lower number make a difference in the amount of history in PR_22 and PR_23? The help on that field is a little obscure - it refers to efiling, but then says, "" Check history that is past the number of years to retain, is purged during year-end processing.

If you go to period end processing there is an option to Purge perpetual Payroll history. you are prompted for a date. I think that purges PR_22 and PR_23. backup early and often!

thanks David! I was looking under the Period End Processing menu - because I thought there was a way to force a purge, but i didn't make it into the Period End Processing task - I should have checked there first. That's exactly what I needed!

Another little tidbit is that the year end close does not purge history for terminated employees. So you have to be careful about recycling employee numbers. Several of our clients have Crystal reports pulling data PR history. Due to the size that this can grow to (I hate purging data), we use an Access PTQ to link the report. Blazingly fast.....
