My gut feel on us subscribing to either Yammer or Socialcast is not great. And I also have a nagging feeling that they could re-organize their efforts and start to close up some of their free services.

Odd thought - except for the groups -- which admittedly are important -- can most of this be duplicated on a Facebook group? The biggest problem I see is that many companies block Facebook - but when you think about the platform: - It's arguably always going to be free - There is a real time instant messenger -- free and with multi-platform - We usually check it daily (or more) - The groups can be set to private - There is search in the group - You can email into the group using a specific address - You can get email alerts for new posts/replies Downside: - Businesses block Facebook and it's seen as a timewaster (though that is starting to go away) - You will probably not be logging into FB while at a clients - for the above reason - The group feature/access is not Facebook's primary focus and it could go away. Still --- I get a creepy feeling about both Socialcast and Yammer. As if they're now in the mode of servicing the Fortune 500 and hitching our wagon to their cart is probably only going to be both expensive and long term disappointing unless we're bringing in 500+ users licenses This is just my gut feel. Anyone else?

I think you'd be at as big a risk or bigger if you switched to Facebook. They change their TOS pretty frequently. I have semi frequent problems with notifications on the mobile app. -1 moving to Facebook. I would think the not being able to login from many clients would be a huge issue.

Just to be clear - I'm not proposing we move this group there. I just think Yammer and Socialcast have moved out of the space we are in. And it's just a gut hunch.

Here's a pretty good list of Yammer competitors - some of these are just group chat. http://www.quora.com/Who-are-the-top-competitors-to-Yammer?q=what+are+some+competitors+to+yam
