My client needs to print payroll checks by the sort field in employee maintenance. In the past they have used extended solution, PR-1068 Additional Check Printing Sort Options. Problem is, using this extended solution keeps them from using graphical checks. I have tried adding the sort to the Crystal check and it works except that the check # the program thinks belongs to an individual isn't the check # pre-printed on the check. Crystal will number the checks by department number and then print by sort field so pre-printed checks are messed up. Anyone have a workaround besides blank check stock?

Why is blank check stock out of the question? I have several clients using Crystal to print the check with MICR coding (using normal toner) without issue. I've been using this method for 7 years now.

I had same problem and we resorted to PR-1068 - this was a while ago and we did not try the MICR route though I cannot recall if there was a reason related to program logic or whether it was easier to take the sure thing of continuing to use the enhancement.

Not sure why more people aren't trying this. $30 for a five user license for Adobe MICR fonts. Alignment of the MICR printing is critical. There are plastic templates available for this. I've even seen the blank check stock have alignment features so you don't need the template. Yes, security can be touchy, but there are ways to mitigate those concerns. A decent quality laser printer is required. With blank stock, you no longer have to reprint the entire run if the checks jam. I run PR for one client on Thursdays and e-mail a PDF of the checks. They print to blank stock Friday morning. In two years since I've done this, never have had an issue.

Thanks Jeff and Wayne. I agree blank stock is the easiest way around the issue but I was hoping someone had figured it out without going that direction.

Jane I took a similar avenue - it's was $200 (or close) for the customer to continue maintenance on PR-1068. With a 200+ payroll done weekly we just decided to stay with the enhancement.

I got into blank forms 10 years ago helping an indian casino function when their members went on strike. CPA called me to set up MAS to run their books. They had 12 different checking accounts. Blank forms were a natural solution. Crystal was modified to print bank information based on bank account set up. Very EASY to do. The only difficult aspect was tweaking the form based on the laser printer (they are all slightly different) so that the MICR codes printed in the assigned area. And as mentioned earlier, I've seen the blank stock come with alignment marks negating the need for the plasitc alignment template. And you don't NEED micr toner either!

Some banks were still requiring MICR toner a couple of years ago, but I don't know if they still are. Most don't any more.

True, but that has never been an issue for me. As a level of assurance, I tell them that I will buy their blank check stock if it is an issue.

I cannot find a website for MICR fonts for version 4.50 for AP Check Printing - anyone have a link that still works?

Extract the Postscript font from the attached.

I am not having any luck. I can't paste any of the files in the attached to the windows fonts directory.

@JaneScanlan Can't paste. Use Control Panel | Fonts. Right click on right pane and select Install New Fonts.

I do not have that option to Install New Fonts. Fonts are a pain.

Mark are these the fonts that were distributed at the MOTM meeting?

Got it figured out. I did not extract the MICR Std Folder from the Zip file. All is good now. Thanks.
