Sage 100

Somewhat similar question to Jeff's question except in my case this customer is on 2017 Advanced with two or three enhancements. The only thing they want to do is upgrade their server by moving to a new virtual server.

They are on server 2012 and want to move to server 2022.

Ideally they'd like to just copy Sage 100 v2017 from one server to the other. They'd probably have to install 2017 on the new server first. Then copy over on top of that installation their existing 2017.

I'm a little iffy on this though because in the case that something doesn't work I envision a lifetime of second guessing why it was done this way. I also think it will make getting support difficult should the provider see that the migration from one server to another was essentially copy/paste job.

    But I have to ask.

Has anyone done something like this and had it work or have any other workarounds that wouldn't involve reinstalling Sage 100 and enhancements? This is really only an issue due to the enhancements that they have - some of which I'm told are custom code.

I think it might be more complicated then installing, the copying due to the internal encryption embedded in the modules.  I think there was a post ( @Carmen Cruz ?) that explained where the encryption fields were located and how/what to change.  Maybe you don't worry about it since you are copying the entire MAS folder so everything matches.

This is a straight forward test.  Either it works immediately or it doesn't.

My sense is that it's going to be more complicated too.
Before I recommend more extensive measures - which might include a full upgrade to 2023 - I figured it's best to check to see if anyone had already attempted this and knew whether it was advisable.

I'd do an install, then migrate from a folder copy of MAS90 (with the normal practices of relinking scripts, changing Paperless paths...).  Using the exact same installers as the original system would mean there should be no data conversion, and there is no worry about back-end settings being missed.

    HI Wayne

I have had success with just installing Sage on the new server and then copying over the MAS90 folder from the other sever but I would think that there are some mods that would actually need to be installed.  But it would be best to install the mods in the "clean" install you are doing on the new server then replace the whole folder (outside of the _appserv folder)   Recently did this with a client that has 17 mods and it worked fine.

In the good old days before the business frameworks, copying Sage from one server to another was generally acceptable,  but now I wouldn't recommend it.

Just too many dlls and registry entries.

Install and then copy over the top maybe, but I would suspect there might be too many pointers that are not obvious to get away with it.

That's my feeling too. Ultimately I found all the source disks needed for a reinstallation so I decided to reinstall, and I will try to migrate and convert over the weekend.

The other concern I have is that if an error comes up a week or two after moving using copy/paste I think I could be sunk in terms of getting support from Sage or the ISVs
