Has anyone moved KnowledgeSync 10 to a new server? The old version allowed you to reinstall and the you could replace folders alone with getting an updated license key. Does v10 have a similar procedure? Is there any documentation on moving?

Here's a conversation from a little while back

Maybe check with  @Michelle Forsey as I think she indicated she's done more than a few upgrade - https://community.90minds.com/communities/community-home/digestviewer/viewthread?GroupId=13&MessageKey=07ef488d-5c1e-4649-860d-941f1bef5f44&CommunityKey=4593d843-4557-43ff-ba4d-6240681ed696&tab=digestviewer

Our client is already on V10.  They have a new server and move KS to it.   I was hoping someone else have done it first.    @Michelle Forsey  Are you around?

I am around! Not officially consulting anymore, but happy to pass on what knowledge I can. :)

Best and easiest way, is to export the jobs/queries via the builder, and backup the SQL tables to .bak files (KS_Epak, KS_Inbox, KS_Object).  Install the SAME version of Ksync on the new server. You can upgrade after completion in case there are changes to the data tables - this messed me up in the early days of v10 because the numbers on the back end changed by one and all my events were matched up to the wrong queries. Uuugh. Install Ksync and use your backups to restore to the new version. This should copy over all the event and system files to minimize having to do any work. If possible, keep the new SQL instance name the same on the new server as well.

Make note of where the KSync files are (like reports, scripts and attachments) and copy the existing files to the same path on the new server. Most of the time it is going to be in the programData folder on the c Drive, so when you install new, you can just copy paste. If not, you can go into the admin portion of the NEW Ksync and change the path.

You will likely have to re-setup the email access, so you can just do that when you re-map the SQL connection. Hopefully that helps :) It's pretty straightforward

Don't forget to get a new license key from ECI with the new Server name :)   Hopefully that helps. If you need more info, feel free to call or text! Good luck!!!

Hi @Michelle Forsey  I am going to be doing an in-place upgrade from version 9 to version 10.4.  Is it as straighforward as the installation manual suggests?  It seems like yo just install version 10.4 then uninstall version 9.  Everything is supposed to migrate over, and work perfectly of course!

Depends entirely on how v9 is running. Since v10 uses SQL (you can still use the KLF if you want... but eventually that will be discontinued since Don is no longer with Ksync, so you are just putting off the inevitable. :)

The biggest PIA for me was the mandatory switch to SQL. First, I would ensure the old v9 has been migrated to SQL (there is a tool installed when v9 is installed). This also tripped me up on crystal reports being delivered - so if they are using the reports module, be sure to double check that they are working and set aside that time/billing. Most of the time it was as simple as removing and re-adding the report from the event and/or the reports module itself. Other times, I had to dig deeper. if you are using time difference calculations, remember that SQL uses date/time, and the KLF only date; so you may need to remap those fields. Second, back up EVERYTHING in the Ksync and SQL folders, and export the SQL tables to bak files. The good news is, you can run them simultaneously and make sure everyone is getting "double alerts" before turning off v9. I think the other thing I had to deal with was re-setting up the schedules and some of the subscribers. I am guessing that has since been fixed - or at least hoping. My best advice, take the time you are thinking it will take, and add 2 or 3 hours; or bill by the hour and set the expectation high with the customer. Better to come in under budget. Good luck! Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you @Michelle Forsey . The customer is already using SQL with v9 so I hope that will smooth the transition.  Good to know that both versions can run simultaneously so we can make sure everything is running correctly.
