Meeting of the Minds 2020 / Power Platform Session - taking requests

    Hi all,

Eric Anderson, Steve Malmgren, and I are preparing a session to dive into some of the beautiful things that can be done with the Microsoft Power Platform.

We met today to flesh out a rough outline of topics and how we can relate it to the 90 Minds members.

I know Steve did a session last year so we are asking him to show some of the newer functionality to the mobile app (properly a "Canvas App" in Microsoft lingo) and to get a bit more in the weeds as to the steps involved in building it, the time it takes vs other development tools, some of the costs involved, how you would install something like this at a customer site, and more nitty-gritty details.

Eric and I are dividing up some of the other areas to share with you - there is a lot to cover - and I think people will be floored by what you can do and how easy it is for nearly every one of us in 90 Minds to pick it up and build stuff out these days. (I say "nearly every one" because let's face it, if I can learn this stuff, I'm sure most of you can too)

What I would like to know from each of you:

Is there any specific tools, topics, or technology that you would like to know about or hear about? Any questions that you have burning in the back (or front) (or sides) of your mind?

It's possible that you don't have anything specific just yet and that's not a problem. We have more than enough to fill the time slot.

But if you do have questions, please share and we will do our best to incorporate relevant topics into the session.

Thanks all - looking forward to sunny San Diego.

Chicago is already turning blah and cold. It usually doesn't get to me but more often than not, I start to see why people move to sunnier climes as they get older.

    Looking forward to this topic!
Practical application for me. Take MS Teams for example, we use it for New Implementations, Upgrades, Training, Tracking etc. But EVERY consultant does it differently. Having a Flow app (or maybe you have a better suggestion) to make sure all steps are followed and people are held accountable? Easier and more consistent on boarding maybe?

Excellent topic Peter!  Some other thoughts might include illustrating how incoming documents/forms can be trained and recognized for actionable data, how Power Automate might then be used to share or mash up data with a different data source (either CDS or non CDS), or how perhaps Power Virtual Agent could be used to request more info from an individual submitting a document or form.  If there was a good use case, it would be exciting to see how easy it is to train the AI engine to recognize images and patterns etc. to conduct a physical inventory or produce a particularly enlightened analysis of a large data set.

We all know that most ERP systems create many barriers to unlocking useful data in a meaningful context, and even though Excel has always been a go-to for lots of finance users, its time to show the light with Power BI and how much more it brings to the party. I was at the PPWT event last week in Portland and there were a number of large consumers of data (non profits, banks, transportation manufacturers, etc.) and they were really excited seeing about all the things they could do with PBI vs. Excel.

Is this a reasonable thing it might be able to do? I've had people request a dashboard like McDonalds uses where orders pop up on a dashboard and when someone is done, they click to indicate they are done and the next step in the process occurs. Who wouldn't want a visual inbox?

    Everyone wants one.
Then they inquire about the price.

Thanks all - keep it coming. I'm not responding to any of them just yet but am recording all the suggestions / questions / requests.

Generally, I think we will have different people in the audiences so we will try to segregate the presentation into layers:

    1. Overview discussion of various elements with pricing discussion.
    2. Simple / basic / practical things that can be done (probably by most of us).
    3. Advanced / crazy-cool stuff that can be done (possibly not by everyone but some of us).

We'll try to focus on practical things during each of the layers including "What skill levels are needed for this?" and "How long would that really take?" and "What's the real value in that thing vs doing it another way?"

We've been provided two hours which is good because there is a lot to cover.

We'll keep it moving along and we will have different voices and topics to keep it interesting.

In general, @Moira Goggin is there any sort of agenda for MOTM 2019?

I was going to suggest cost / benefit analysis vs alternatives, but it seems you have that in mind already.

What types of things are resalable vs. custom built from scratch every time?

When it comes to Steve's stuff, which is amazing and super cool... if I can't get my hands on it, I can't recommend it (or understand how difficult / costly it will be to deploy / support).
