MAS v4.5 PU4 - Custom Office - It appears that hiding/unhiding column in the grid is a global setting affecting ALL customizations for that panel. This is a continuation from yesterday's hunt for the missing grid fields that Lisa Dion assisted with. We are trying to create a user group to hide the sales $'s for certain users. When we hide the fields for that group, those fields are also hidden for users that should be able to see it. We tried setting the customization for the USER, but this too impacted everyone. Is this an unintended WAD?

Jeff - I had no problem doing this using CM and the User Customization Group. However, 1 user's settings didn't work - must have gotten corrupted. We setup that user under another code and everything worked fine. Also check the SO/CUSTOM folder to see if anything looks funny.

@LeeGraham - I don't have an issue with the panel customiaztion per se. I can create panels by user and group without TOO much difficulty. The issue is customizing the GRID by hiding fields. When I hide the field for the user or group, ALL users and groups are affected. Are you saying that you can selectively hide grid fields for one user/group without the all group being impacted? If you would like to test my customization, modify the item inquiry screen by hiding a couple columns for the group/user. Then go back and look at your ALL group to verify that these columns appear. For me, once I hid columns, they were hidden for all customization groups/users.

@JeffSchwenk when I tried this it works on 4.50.3 but if you check the beg bal then the screen went blank. Could be the PU4 ?

Try this everyone, add a field to IM for ALL users, ALL companies (you need multiple users for this game). Then specify a user as a member of a group. Then create your group customization, hiding the say...in IM $$ fields in History (mgmt doesn't want users to see $$). It will indeed create the customization and all looks good, until you login as one of the other users and find that they too have the customization. When you look at the original ALL customization, somehow the Group customization has been added there...ie., the hidden field check boxes have become checked on the original ALL customization.

Oops - mine was 4.5.03 - for that version in SO, other user-groups weren't affected.

The answer is lurking in the customized grid entry in: MAS_System\SY_GridDefinition you might be able to correct it there.

I would agree the issue probably lies in the Grid Definition file. In the past, we have had to occasionally remove records from this file. There is a record for every column in every grid and three of the key fields are Company Code, User Key and Workstation Name. The standard records will show # signs in those three fields. This file can have a lot of records as time goes on and people change things.

Correction is nice, but like all things Sage, do we REALLY need to correct it. Also, can someone give me a short discourse on the GridDefinition table. This week is the first that I have had to dig into it. The table I looked at had 24,000 detail lines. Not something I want to get in the habit of correcting.

Short Discourse? I thought I just did. :) My local laptop install of 4.5 has only 1600 lines in it. When the grids first appeared, we tried editing records in this file to hide stuff. Quickly found that it worked but all someone had to do was reset to clear our edits. If your just looking for records that might be goofy, a key scan looking at the first 5 fields will get you there pretty fast.

Backup the file - then only change custom-lines. Do NOT change lines ending with .Z0001, Z0002 etc. - Level Z records.
