MAS 90 V4.5 upgrade from v44. 2003 Std SP 2 Server OS. Fresh reboot. Getting several errors. Not sure if they are related. First is the installation error that the C++ 2008 has failed. Not sure why this is because it isn't even a 2008 OS. Second is CRC error. I wonder if I have a faulty DVD burn. Nothing close on the KB. Any thoughts out there on this lovely Saturday morning? Also, you are supposed to be able to install v4.5 on top of v4.4. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. Has anyone else encountered this inconsistency and know a reason for it?

A bit of time with Google seems to point to either a bad DVD or the possibility of copying to the hard drive and installing from there. I haven't tried installing 4.5 on top of 4.4. We have been trained for so long now to do parallel installs I don't even consider it.

I do parallel too. Wasn't there discussion previously about a C++ error? The 4.5 version can download again from Boss. I have it all uncompressed but it's a huge DL

Jeff, CRC error sounds like a bad disk. Maybe that is the reason for the C++ install error as well?

Gene - Since an inplace install is an option for v45, I've tried it several times. I seem to be batting 500. I get the message that MAS 90 already exists in that folder and to please try another. I ALWAYS make a compete copy of the folder before I try to install just in case it goes south. I find it easier to do an in place because I have numerous links that have to be reset if I didn't. John, CRC does tend to be a disk error so I am trying to download a new copy. Maybe I'll get it done today. Wayne - Thanks for the offer but luckily I have access to downloading a new copy. Unfortunately, when I search on C++, I got a hit of 163 messages, but the new search feature doesn't display what they are.

Managed to copy the CD over via the net. Something to consider if anyone else finds themselves in the same situation, only copy the root folder and some of the smaller folders. Don't copy the CRM or Crystal folder if they aren't needed for this phase of the install.

I ended up having to do a parallel install. Interestingly, the ###-XXX folders under the reports folder did NOT move when I migrated the companies using the utilities. Also my script folder ...\cm\script\bls did not migrate either

Finished the migration. Took about four hours not including the DVD issues and going around to the various WS to install the new client. Two MAS companies, 10 years worth of data, not many Crystal reports, no scripts, some UDF's and panel mods. Somewhat vanilla. After install the PU's and the hot fixes for IM and SO, keeping my fingers crossed that no other issues pop up.

Jeff - I did an upgrade last week from 4.3 to 4.5 and my reports did not migrate over either. At the time I did not think much of it, but maybe tis is something to keep an eye out for on future installs. I did migraye over one of the companies seperately, so maybe that had something to do with it. Did you migrate everything over all at one time?

I did everything - companies, VI's and reports. I haven't had consistent luck in moving companies in multiple migration sessions so I move everything.

@JeffSchwenk I think originally sage was going to allow a 4.5 install over 4.4 - I think they changed and it must be a parallel at last minute.. I think some of the C## errors relate to the Sage Product Enhancement Program - I think reinstall something fixes it. I cannot remember what component is required.

Actually, I've done an in place v4.5 so it does work. Just can't do it consistently.

Unfortunately, a parallel install hoses the user's shortcuts that displayed on the Desktop also. Now I have to figure out what is missing..........
