MAS 4.40.8. Inventory valuation is FIFO. We hav

MAS 4.40.8. Inventory valuation is FIFO. We have a problem that has reared it's ugly head again. Back in March of this year we noticed that the beginning balance of January 2012 Inventory Trial Balance report was not same as the ending balance of December 2011 Inventory Trial Balance report. The same was true for Jan-Feb and Feb-Mar as well. Found out from Sage support we had to update to SU 8 (we were on SU 6 at that time) and run the inventory recalc utility. That seemed to solve the issue at that time. However, we discovered it now is doing it again. I am going to test to see if we do a inventory recalc if that corrects it again. However, why would this keep happening? It is driving the accountant crazy? We close all modules (except GL) monthly by the 6-7th of the month. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know there were still problems with inventory that they fixed in PU9 and probably PU10 also and they made changes to the utilities. You might get them up to 10 and see if the problems go away.

Thanks Roberta. I will have to contact the MD for one of their enhancements to PU10. I will also check the release notes in PU10 and hope they aren't to vague about the inventory fixes like they have in the past.

I can tell you that this whole inventory costing issues since 4.40 came out are not widely advertised and they just fix things and hope the problems just go away.

Yes. This has been a big BIG issue for two large customer's of mine. One FIFO and one Avg Cost customer. The frustrating part is that Sage has kept is so quiet and it is hard to get tech support to assist in any depth on it. In both cases it has caused issues with inventory valuations and has driven their CPA's crazy trying to tie out inventory every month.

Is there anything posted on Sage Talk? Maybe we should start some buzz there so that the end users can be alerted.

Be alterted? Good golly this has been going on for over 2 years now so if they don't know they have a problem by now then maybe they should stay in the dark! Anyone who is having a problem should get up to the latest update and run the utilities.

Actually we did a bunch of analysis on this issue over the last couple weeks and it looks like our specific issue is being caused by a DSD rebate enhancement. So this isn't Sage only related in our case. Thanks for everyone's input on this.

I""ve heard that Inventory Trial balance report has never worked very well. I would have thought with the new file layouts in 4.4 and a utility it would work better.

Only as good as the code behind the report and the people who understand the code AND the accounting process...........

We have resolved this problem now for two clients. You definitely need SP9 or preferably SP10. Do you know if the Balance Utility has been run (at v4.3 migration or post migration for any reason?)? Do you find IZ Inventory Transaction records in ItemTransaction History? If so, what date is on those records? The IZ transactions are created to balance transaction detail history to ""current"" balance on hand. Depending on the date the utility is ran it can wack the Trial Balance and Item History Inquiry with a transaction that's out of sync with current operations. At the end of the day, the existing IZ transactions may need to be deleted manually. Reopen closed years, change the Inventory System date to the way past, run the SP9 or SP10 Inventory Balance utility and allow new IZ transactions to post way back in time. Reclose and change dates back to current. Purge the transaction detail from the way back years which rolls up the IZ transactions. Then run Recalculate Item History to bring the Trial Balance and Item History Inquiry into sync with the current Valuation Report. (Whew!) I usually knock out the IZ transactions in the live company first, then copy to a test company so the client can see the fix before executing in the live company.

Thanks @MikeBrown. We may have to do that after we scrap the 3rd party mod. The client has determined that they can most likely do without the mod since it seems to be the largest cause of our headaches. Whew! That does sound like a lot of work though. I appreciate the input.
