Magnetic credit card readers - does anyone have a suggested brand/model number to use? I have a client that has magnetic credit card readers that are basically just USB plug in readers. They were using them for years and just bought some new terminals and purchased new CC readers from the same company (MagTek). The new readers are throwing in some control characters, the persons name and such along with the card number. We called Support at MagTek. and they tried to help but said that PCI compliance requires that the control characters and such are mandatory and cannot be changed. they offered a few options (track1, track2, etc.). but all of these options send more than just the card number into Sage (causing a message ""invalid card number). If anyone has a suggested MFG and model number the client is willing to just scrap the ones they bought and purchase new ones. They just want to have the curser in the CC number field in Sage then have the card number come in from the Magnetic reader. They can then verify that the last four on the screen matches the card in their hand. they are on Sage100 version 4.4 if that is important

I use readers from ID Innovations, Inc. Contact is Jeff Zimmerman. Jeff@idinnovations.com 817 285 8772 They are located in Hurst, TX. They are running in v2014 & v2013 with SPS. I had similar issues that I think were resolved by changing the setting under the sage exchange icon in the task manager. This might be all you need to do...

What @JeffSchwenk said about changing the setting under the Sage Exchange icon to generic was what I had to do for one of our clients, too.

This client is still on version 4.4 I found two CC Swipe machines that are fully programmable. I think that is what we needed here. The first one that they purchased were not programmable and sent unwanted data to the CC Field.

That was the great thing about ID Innovations. Their readers were programmable and the install software loaded some DLL's at start up so that the readers would work in V4.4. BTW, Sage (and SPS) were completely clueless about how to use a reader in this version. Once we got the readers working. Life was great. But it still wasn't until v2014 that Sage incorporated the ability to detect the swipe as card present so client could get a better rate.....

Thanks Jeff, I gave them ID Innovations and pointed their IT to the link that mentioned they are fully programmable. I have another client using ID Tech card readers that are also fully programmable and I provided that so he had options to research and choose. We have also recommended to the CEO that they upgrade Sage 100 to become PCI compliant. they seemed open to upgrading.
