    Hi there

    I am preparing for a demo where the user needs to see some good functionality with regards to lot numbers.

    1.  Am i right in that Sage 100 does not auto-number lots in PO ROG (the item set up only works in BOM Production and Work Order according to the help screen)?

    2. Is there any logic that has been added to Sage 100 that auto-distributes lots during Shipping or S/O Invoice based on first-in first-out?

    Does this situation pertain to your demo only or does the prospect want LOT functionality but doesn't really use it?  IMHO, not scanning or keying the true lot numbers defeats the purpose of LOT tracking.  What is prospect's business reasoning?

    Hi there

     

    I am going to demo for the prospect and they are familiar with Sage 100 and they are in the food distribution business.

    Below is what they are asking to see:

     

                    We import and distribute food, so simply put when we receive we want to assign a lot number (automated); and also be able to enter in key details to the product such as cost, expiration, manufacturer lot #; other stuff is generic.

     

    Then we would like like to be able to assign location (which is already possible on the 2013 version).

     

    Next is during an order, when the sales person needs to type an order, they would need to select the older lot (FIFO); and so the warehouse will know what and where to go and find the merchandise.

    Also, heads up, check with a Production Management guru -- If I recall, the ability to auto-assign lots/serials during PM wasn't in the initial build. This may have been fixed so I am not claiming that it's not there ( only to verify with someone more familiar with PM ).

    WO does allow for auto assigning lot/serial as you note.

    And, I think you are correct WRT 1 and 2 above.

    ​I have a Sage 100 users who makes use of lots for high-end audio equipment.


    In their case they also have the same question about assigning the lot/serial sequentially when the item ships. Their business case is that until the unit goes out the door they really don't need a serial/lot number on it. They wanted to apply the label during shipping which would fit with your question about auto-distributing the lot/serial during shipping.​ My concern on this practice is what happens when shipping doesn't put a serial number on a series of items and they go out without numbers.  This has kept them on the path of applying the serial numbers during production.

    We also had to make some changes to the order/invoice to display the serial numbers in a more condensed fashion on the form.
