Looks as if we could license 300 images per year (25/mo) from Shutterstock for up to 6 users. While this would not directly benefit the entire group I think it would be beneficial for those who blog regularly . I did not get a copy of the license agreement (they forgot to attach). I've asked them to supply one.

Personally I always thought these services were overly expensive. Also - does the ""license"" need to be renewed each year or we have to pull any used photos from our blogs? Or can we leave images that were used without re-upping? There might be different prices for web only. Did she know that it was for blogging purposes?

I'm not sure about whether the images have to be pulled. I haven't read the license terms. If they had to be pulled or there was a time period for usage then I would not subscribe because you're just locked in. The biggest issue is that while you can find all sorts of images in Google Image Search - their use may or may not be legit. And as Mark previously mentioned there are some image companies that scour the web for unlicensed use and are happy to sue for the fee. It's never happened to me - and I'm on the fence as to whether this is REALLY needed. However if it can apply across 6 users as a shared expensive it may be worthwhile.

I think it would be worth it at first glance but let me look through their photos and licensing agreement first. 300 photos isn't really a lot honestly and if we go into negotiations, I would push for 700 photos at the same price. Never hurts to ask.

If you are just thinking of images for a blog, I have been 'borrowing' images for years and ...knock on wood, have had no problems. But if you want to use them on permanent pages, do not mess around. You will get nailed. This isn't like anonymously downloading a movie. These images are online for all to see, including image recognition robots. Same tech that tineye uses. Most of these are permanent licenses. Some sites have some classification of images that aren't permanent. Some say you can use on web but have to pay separate for print or vice versa (but non web is pretty hard to enforce) I think this is one of those luxuries, 90 minds should pay for. If folks are too lazy and stupid to blog, that's there problem, but we should be able to finally get a benefit for all the extra effort we put in vs. the other members.

I would not see myself as using more than a few a month but it would be nice not to have to do a Google Image search and hope that I'm not picking up an image that might cause problems. I'm on the fence about whether to just keep scouring the web or to pony up the $$. Since we can spread it over 6 people it may be worthwhile and as Mark says I'm thinking it's an ok benefit to offer the few active bloggers but can be persuaded otherwise.

For now let's table this until we know more about how may might use this and whether we're going to invest in some Google Apps accounts.
