Looking to have choices on the files to bring over in an item merge. Anyone know of an enhancement that will do this? For example, when merging, this client doesn't want to bring item memos, aliases, & price code records from the old into the new. Looking for a check box or selection on the merge to check or uncheck each of these, similar to ""Recalc Desc?"" option when doing a GL account merge.

I used this previously but question the wisdom/probability of not merging all content - ex Aliases. http://www.dsdinc.com/enhancement/lmcc-company-consolidation/

When you use the SVTRNA utility, you have a choice of which files to copy:

Ok, I am not sure how either of these would work for this. They do merges on a regular basis, at least once a month & there could be hundreds to merge, usually due to obsolete item codes. These both copy to a new company code, which we don't want. I am trying to think how this could be used for what we need & I am just not getting it.

    1. Difference between merge and copy 2. What is the business purpose for doing this 3. Are they an existing Sage 100 - if not how are they doing this now (custom?) 4. Possible that Sage isn't the best fit but I'd step back from the mechanical question (merge/move) to #2 above

    1. We are not looking to copy items. They need to merge item X into Y. 2. They end up with a lot of ""Use item code xxxx"" in the descriptions, so then they merge this into what the new item is. 3. They are an existing Sage 100 Advanced customer. They currently use the Item Merge utility to merge old item codes into new item codes when items become obsolete. Then, after they do this, they have to manually remove the data they don't need or want, but its time consuming. They just want the history to of the items to merge & the old item to become an alias of the new item (which we handle with a VI job), but they don't want all the vendor aliases, memos, & pricing data to come over from the obsolete items. They are maintaining a database of about 36k item codes.

I don't see what version you are on...

Given the impending upgrade, I would probably recommend an automating script to simulate data entry. It is completely outside of Sage and easy to change when little things change from version to version. Sounds like you could get away with a spreadsheet of items with two columns, i.e. Merge To, Merge From.

@RandyMarion I don't understand. They currently use a spreadsheet & we VI the items into the utility, but that is not the issue. I need to select which files come over from the obsolete item.

Yes, you can use VI to enter the list into the merge and such, but I would look into using a scripting language like AutoIT to simulate all the steps you must manually do after the merge is complete to finish the task.

@DanaYoung - what resolution did you come to?

Dana you could have a MD modify the item merge logic and ask question about the files. That what I would recommend.

@DanaYoung - If you are attending MOTM 2016, there will be a session on MD modifications vs Scripting. Might be one to attend.

I think I am looking for more of a modification than scripting, which is why I was wondering if an enhancement existed yet. I will not be at MOTM this year, but Bernie will be so hopefully he can gather some info on this. Thanks everyone!
