Looking at different phone service other than Qwest. Is anyone using Comcast for their cable Internet and phone service? If so, what feedback can you offer? Is anyone using Skype exclusively for phone service? Again, you feedback is welcomed. If you are using these alternative services, how does it work with your PC when using it to dial from your contact manager database?

I don't use Comcast. I did try Cox's telephone service briefly...very briefly. Also interesting is this (http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/28/comcast-internet-down-across-parts-of-the-eastern-seaboard-fix/) pops up just half an hour after you post this question.

I dropped my home line probably 6 years ago. Replaced it with Vonage for a year or two until I realized the only calls I got were telemarking and my college alumni association trying to persuade me to donate. I eventually dropped the home line altogether and use my cell phone 100%. Using Google Voice makes this a lot easier. I give out my Google Voice number - 860-516-8990 - and I have the ability to point that number to any phone that I want. I still have an incoming line at the office -- only because I want to have a ""guaranteed"" way for prospects to get in touch. I'll probably do away with that line in 2011 and our office will be just Skype. I'll first need to find a convenient place to port that number too since I don't want to give up the office incoming phone number (I'm not sure Skype accepts number ports). In short - these methods all work. I didn't care for Vonage once they were forced to start adding on monthly fees to the base amount they'd charge. Their customer service also tends to be a nightmare to try to navigate for the purposes of disconnecting.

I dream of someday having a CHOICE. But until my neighbors on the other side of the tracks stop looking like the county dump (or like a giant threw his toys away in their back yard - how do you get a mobile home to sit at an angle like that?), no one will ever believe anyone down here can afford cable. But I'll continue to read what you guys post, in hopes that SOMEDAY it may mean something to me...

No Google Voice won't do ports -- I ported mine to a cell phone which I felt comfortable with because I could also port out if I wanted to.

Wayne, were you able to retain your home phone # on Google voice? I'm cancelling my home phone tomorrow.
