Had something similar to that with an upgrade about two weeks ago.
In final testing and suddenly discovered that KS could not e-mail. Then discovered that Sage 100 couldn't e-mail either.
That was Saturday afternoon (so no tech support available). I believe I let the server reboot and gave up for the day. Came back in the morning and all was well.

OMG, after a long afternoon of testing VineyardSoft's diagnostic tests (with mixed results and they REFUSE to pick up the phone and call me), I finally was able to reboot the server tonight and voila! I am now receiving emails from KS!!

Yes... sometimes the issues are cryptic SMTP errors.
(I always find troubleshooting KS to be difficult).

It's not the report generation. It's the emailing. I have an event scheduled daily to email me if it's working. Just an email and that is not working. I'm going to ask him to reboot this server (it's not the Sage 100 server).

We've had repeated issues with KS at one customer, where the only resolution is to reboot the server. Absolutely nothing we do helps until that is done.

Do they have any events that don't have reports that are running okay? Can you maybe try creating an event that just sends a list of open invoices or something like that see if those go?
