Just heard there may be an issue with PU8 for 4.40 with U/M in S/O Entry. Anyone else aware of this?

Speculation at this point but was wondering if anyone else ran across this.

It is similar to the issue just reported on the community in 4.5.02? http://community.sagemas.com/t5/Distribution-Manufacturing-and/Unit-of-measure-on-Sales-Order/m-p/67837#M7830

I'm having trouble understanding the issue here without actually running an example in MAS. It almost sounds like the person in the community used to put in some type of override and now they are being forced to use a UM conversion table. Again I haven't looked just trying to interpret what is being reported. If true this could be as big an issue as disallowing the changing of standard cost without posting. It's nothing to most customers but to certain customers using the ""feature"" it could be huge and we should be warning prior to upgrade.

Here's part of the explanation - I'm still not wrapping my arms around exactly what has changed - I'll need to walk through an example because the explanation seems to be leaving out a few steps or key needs: We can no long use the Purchase Unit of Measure on a sales order. This is a frequent need for us as we have many items in ""each"", ""pack"" or ""box"", and ""case"", and have customers that order in all three. They prefer to have their confirmations, packing sheets, and invoices match their order quantity/packaging. We would switch the UM on a sales order to confirm packaging quantities and now have to go to inventory inquiry to confirm case quantities.

You know how when you setup different U of M on an individual item, you don't have to have it in the Conversion Table? You just set up the conversion for THAT item? That's what he's talking about. When you don't have standard conversions and each item is different (which happens to several of my clients). YIKES.

I see. It also sounds like he is saying that he used to also be able to use the purchase u/m that he setup on an item and that conversion would pull through but now he only gets the standar u/m conversion setup from the common menu. Could be a really big issue for customers that were used to doing this the prior way. At the least we would want to inform the customer (similar to how I told people that if they were used to changing standard cost in IM without getting everyone out and posting that they should expect a big change). There's nothing worse than going through a huge $15,000 upgrade for a wholesale distributor and hitting this show stopper --- especially when they're used to having all 20 of their customer service people work this way.... Won't affect a lot of people but potentially huge for those it does.

I have a few who do the exact same thing he mentions - and I have even shown people that in training. And along the lines of the show stopper upgrade - isn't a show stopper, but ONCE AGAIN have someone really pissed that you can no longer do Ext Desc for Misc and Special Items. (this time in PO) Man, I remember how I begged for them to change that when beta testing 4.10 and I get pissed all over again every time a client has a fit over it when they upgrade.

@BethBowers you are great at finding these issues. Can you tag them in Socialcast #showstoppers when you post about them?

Beth - this did just change in 4.5 -- right?

As near as I can understand -- and please correct me @BethBowers : Under the old way - with U/M in Sales Order you could on each individual inventory item use either the Sales U/M or Purchase U/M factor on IM maintenance when creating the order. The order would first look to IM for the relevant UM factor then to the conversion maintenance. Under the new 4.5 no matter what I put into SO UM the system seems to look at the IM Sales UM and take whatever factor is there and apply it against the UM Conversion Maintenance table.

I think this is correct, but I haven't tested yet. But that sounds like what the guy described. And I remember there being an issue with different U of M when 4.10 first came out - as usual, my client foudn it first. Dang clients.

Oh, I see my earlier posting didn't go through - in answer to @WayneSchulz - no, the ext desc thing came out with 4.10 for SO and 4.40 for Purchase Order. This U of M is a 4.50 thing.

I think that the bug being reported (hopefully not a WAD) is you can't sell in other than the default sales UM -- and you can't purchase in other than the default purchase UM.
