Just finished replacing my laptop's (WIN 7 64) HD with a Solid State Drive. Took some technical gymnastists to transfer the data but the new drive REALLY seems to much faster. Though a bit expensive, a great way to boost the performance of a laptop.

I did the same thing a few months ago - this solid state drive should extend the life of the laptop by a year or two. Expensive hard drive, but much less than a new laptop.

My lap top and SSD just had their first birthday. The best part is rebooting in 30 seconds.

I like being top dog. When laptop sucks. pass it down to someone's whose sucks worse. They rebuild it and are happy and I get a new toy. Should be getting an iPad later this year.

No better way to speed up a computer used for business applications.

Looking for some feedback on whether switching to an SSD will definitely speed up certain things in Sage 100, e.g., Rebuilds, Data Conversion, etc. @JeffSchwenk, @EricAnderson, @DanBurleson, @MarkChinsky

Definitely, if one can afford it for the server drive used for MAS, figure $1K per TB. That could get quite expensive for RAID 6. There are now 6 TB versions now...but maybe the new limit becomes 1 Gb Ethernet adapters with a theatrical 125 MB transfer rate. Better still run your rebuilds, etc. on the server! http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/fixstars-releases-6-terabyte-ssd-the-worlds-largest-25-sata-ssd-300080240.html

for a laptop, I won't go back to the old days.... My time is money... Server drives can get pricy as Dan indicates.

Server drive pricing has gone down. Keep in mind, you could have a raid 5 or 6 array of 15k drives for regular storage and a smaller 150gig Raid 1 array of SSD's where you put MAS.

1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSDs are only $360 at NewEgg. They're actually cheaper than the 1.2TB 15Ks now, although the SSDs are not officially 'server-class' (that's why we RAID them anyway). Living in the future is fun!

Wow, that is a deal.... Maybe it is time to replace my 500 GB SSD. IMHO, running a laptop on anything but an SSD is simply too costly.
