Just back from a customer where I was attempting an upgrade to 2013. Three user system - piece of cake. Problem is that their Sage 100 is shoehorned onto a very active server (yeah yeah I know - don't do that). Point being: For all upgrades ask FIRST if you are going to be able to reboot the server during the install. If not you're going to need to price an overnight or weekend upgrade.

Good Point. Also once you start the install, if I'm not mistaken, when (if) the windows prerequisites install you get a message telling you that the server must reboot and you are NOT offered and option to reboot later. The message only offers and OK button and if you close the message using the X in the upper right corner the server reboots anyway.

Yes - I ran into that as well too. It's an overall poor design in my opinion. There's no realistic way to tell if you need the pre-requisites and should the installer deem them required you have little choice than to ""End Task"" or kick everyone off the server. This is a really perplexing design decision because I have to think the majority of the ""surviving"" Sage 100 users on plan are with larger sized companies where this type of random reboot is not practical. And you can indeed workaround this by isolating the server, using a virtual server, etc. However there are still enough customers who don't want to do that for whatever reason that the ability to reboot the server during the initial installation is an important consideration for pre-planning.

After all, Lori Maloof reads these suggests on a regular basis. Of the 1,548 ideas submitted, they have ALREADY incorporated 54 ideas and are working on THREE more. WOW!!!!!!!!

Having experienced this first hand, I always warn the client ahead of time about the reboot, install in the afternoon/early evening and return later in the week to continue the migration.

This case was one of my few where ""for security purposes"" they would not allow me to remotely connect.

I will not work with someone who will not allow remote connections. Especially since 90% of my upgrades begin late Friday afternoon and complete over the weekend. I cannot remember the last time I completed an upgrade during business hours......must be nice.
